DSD Mk II - What Streamer?

Oh, you are right and thanks Vince!

I tried a cheap converter because I am eyeing the Lumin U2 (or something else coming out) that has an optic input. So, I will not need a converter in future.

Can you compare depth of fiber optic to Inakustik Referenz Ethernet. Such a huge difference for me to 5N Silver with Referenz better. I wonder head to head with Fiber optic?

I can do that. I can put back the Super Cat8 between satellite and switch, and compare Inakustik Ref. to 5N silver directly in in front of F.O. If I cannot hear the difference, I will go back to the ethernet link to compare both to F.O.

But that will wait until I finish more important business first. :golfing_man:

Love the fiber front end pioneering that you are doing. It is conceivable that this stream, with good cables, switches, supplies, and clocks, could surpass other connections that have inherently more (potential for) noise. I am thinking of a streamer with optical in as well. In addition, DAC optical inputs that support higher sampling rates would be key. The MKII only supports higher rates for USB and I2S. In this fast moving stream environment, I can also confidently say that the more I know, the less I know. It’s the hardest thing to get right. Analog for me is easy. Ones and zeros are Greek to me.

Fiber is great! I almost lost all the weight gain from vacation by eating more fiber lately!

Sounds like the SW10 is a keeper, would love to hear your impression when the spf modules are linked and any difference compare to your copper/silver cables.

In my very entry level streaming system, there is clear cut advantage from using fiber.

I finally finished a 100% unifi server set up with both 1gbs 10gbs and cat(whatever) linkage to my streamer front end.

Voilins and Piano sounded more convincing with either 1gbs or 10gbs fiber compared to copper. The last run of cable from the fiber to the streamer is done by a Microtik 10Gbs 5 port switch powered by an 12V iFi elite PSU. Even though there are more junctions and devices in the signal chain for fiber, for whatever reason, it just sounds better than direct from my UnifiDream Machine via POE cat6 to a unifi switch then to the same Streamer front end(this front end also has the LHY SW8).

Lumin has released details on their new L2 music library and network switch. It supports dual 2.5" SSDs and is available without drives or with 4TB or 8TB capacity.

Network switch plus SSD! That is pretty smart. For Lumin owners without a switch already, this is a great way to go!

This thing confuses me a bit.

In terms of output is it USB out to DAC USB in, only?

TIA.

You can connect it to your network and the SSDs will act as a NAS server but requiring no configuration.

I honestly don’t remember where this thread started and am way to lazy to look back…. But so many streamers coming out or in the 5-10k range holy crap. Still leaning aurender, but I’m two mules in and can be swayed…haha

Anyway it’s a target rich environment and I’m here for it.

Just a few of interest (feel free to add).

Thanks; but I don’t think that answers my question:

How does this output to a DAC (USB only)?

Care to clarify…?

Sorry but I don’t know the answer to that.

The L2 is not meant to be connected to a DAC but rather to a streamer or better yet to the Network.

Thank you for the clarification.

It looks sexy but seems a little superfluous. I guess its real utility is as part of the Lumin “ecosystem”?

I expect it would work with other streamer brands but yes it’s main purpose it to be a part of the “Lumin Ecosystem” which would also include streamers from Teac and Esoteric. Expect to see a similar device from Esoteric in the near future with a fancier case and double the price at least.

You would like the Sonore Signature Rendu SE. Fiber in, galvanic USB out. When I tested it with the MK2 it was excellent.

Okay, I will take a look. Fiber optic is a new world to me!
