DSD MK2 Latest Mountaintop update! - Mount Blue Sky!

I’ve noticed a slight increase in brightness as well but I am in the middle of breaking in a pair of Silversmith Fidelium interconnects so it could be that. I broke my rule about one upgrade at a time. It was just a couple of days into breaking in the cable when Blue Sky was introduced. So, of course, I couldn’t wait. Both are major improvements.

Ted, it’s been awhile not hearing from you. Miss you greatly; thank you for the new codes!

Great to hear you no longer have those pops! Did you check on the ‘no gapless’ as well?

With my dsd(+) files ‘no gapless’ never became apparent.
I just checked a few high res albums and although ‘live’, they were classical and jazz, so likely produced in such a way that there were clean cuts between tracks resulting in a gapless experience. I will remain on the look out for anything noticeable.

Still no gapless between the DS MkII and the RS130, but I think the problem is on the HiFi Rose side, as I never had this problem with the MkII and the Holo Red.

That’s a pity and strange there are such differences between our systems. Let’s hope Rose finds time to prioritize your issue!

Job, the sure way to check to see if gapless is working is to play something like Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon, in which each track flows continuously from one to the next. If you’re on YSB this shouldn’t be an issue.

I’m about 30 hours into playback burn in with the new firmware and I’m very impressed. When others noted it makes speakers disappear, they weren’t kidding! My TAD’s coincident drivers aren’t always the best at disappearing in my setup, so this is a welcome improvement. I also notice additional inner detail, texture and realism. I’m using aftermarket transformers created by and installed by a now banned forum member so perhaps I’m hearing even more of what this latest update has to offer than with the stock Edcore.

Am I the only one that still prefers Antero 208 over Massive or the newest “Mt. Blue Sky” software upgrade?

Absolutely love Antero 208!!!

Could this be system dependent?

Any feedback would be helpful…
Thank you

With every FPGA software release there have been a few people who prefer an older version. Yes, it’s system dependent and what you like is what you like. No problem there.

Still most have discovered that as they change other components in their system, they might find a newer release of the FPGA software to sound better in the new system.

For example, some have discovered that simply toeing their speakers in a little or out a little makes an amazing difference in their software preferences.

My best advice is to treat each new software release like you would a new hardware unit and optimize your system like you would if you bought a new DAC.

But if you are happy with an older software release you don’t need to do a thing. Just enjoy it.

Hi Tony, Just did multiple tests. No issues with gapless playback using USB on the RS130.
I hope you get the issue solved somehow.

Thanks Job, but I have to hope HiFi Rose solves this problem for me if I hope to continue to use I2S.

It seems with Blue Sky that far fewer are posting a preference for an older software than usual…though fully agree with Ted’s response…

That does seem to be the case. Snowmass, Massive, Blue Sky, all have been touted as “keepers” by most owners. It makes sense as these have had the longest time between releases to perfect the code. And, maybe even more importantly, the last two have unrestricted areas to store the code with an additional array. No need to modify code to make space for new code like on the single Mk1 DAC.
Whatever the reasons, the software upgrades are a great gift. Wish other FPGA based DACs would dedicate resources to regularly improve sonic performance.

Thank you. So much Ted!!!

The Blue Sky update has such a black background that it has created a black hole that sucks you into the music. A really terrific upgrade !

This is killing me… new room so close but carpet now has a month delay…the single chair is just middle section of back row needed to get height for rear speakers. Yes dual purpose room. But treated to be 2ch first

NICE!!! Maybe we need a new thread: 2025 OTT Sound Rooms! Maybe ask Elk if you think yes. My room no longer has bin after bin of Legos as absorbers. But I cannot (do not want to) send a picture today as the two twin 15-inch subs are rolling out to make way for the new build speakers tomorrow… if tests go well at the builder’s shop in the morning. SWMBO already has my old speakers for the ATMOS 5.2.4 system upstairs. I pick up a new custom build preamp… 8-channel RStAudio… on Saturday. That is the preamp for stereo via active crossovers. Already have an SPL MC-16 for ATMOS surround.

WOW! When do pre-sale tickets go on sale? Amazing!
