Impressive!
Remind yourself that all things good usually don’t come too easy.
And when you’re finished, it wasn’t too big a price to pay and you can really start enjoying!

A long time ago, users had to choose between saying whether one was using a separate preamp or the just the DSDMK2. If one changes the system setup, do we need to take any action?

That was regarding to whether you used the fixed volume setting or variable. It really does not matter. I use the DAC into a BHK Preamp and I still prefer using the variable setting so I can use the DAC volume to fine tune the listening level. The is no loss of bits when using the mk2 volume control.

Curious about this, I dropped back to Antero just to reacquaint myself with it. I won’t describe the differences in detail, but anyone who’s curious should give it a shot. Takes only a minute or two, and it works with 3.2.1. :face_with_monocle: :slightly_smiling_face:

… honestly my first impressions with “Blue Sky” had been confusing in my setup. Well, yes, I was closer to all instruments. Everything was very direct, also the soundstage. But I was missing the overall perfection, the holography of “Massive”. The sound in general was a little woody with “Blue Sky”. Not harsh but not so elegant. A long burn-in-period followed by just using music from a techno music radio station over here to give it intensive power in midrange and trebles. Yesterday morning, I started listening again. And yes. You did it. Lute Music was fantastic engaging. As many of you wrote, the loudspeakers seem to disappear. The stage was back. And more realistic than before. Some of the holography of “Massive” now seems to be more artificial in direct comparison with “Blue Sky”. Voices, Mezzo Soprano for instance, get much better, realistic timbre. But the greatest success in my opinion is the advantage to follow polyphonic music easier and completer. I checked this with different Bach Cantatas played by the great Choir and Orchestra of the J.S. Bach Stiftung in St. Gallen, Switzerland. And last but not least: I never could listen to a Harpsichord so realistic and native and full-bodied on any other DAC I checked over the last decades than with “Blue Sky” on my DSD MK2. Thanks to Ted, Paul and the whole Team at PS Audio,
Frank

This OS update IS almost like receiving a new DAC. Wow.

My initial observations is that there is a significant drop in the noise floor floor with better articulation of treble and bass (greater air between instruments). The treble seems a little more forward than previous. I think that the changes are significant enough that it warrants some realignment of speakers/subwoofers in my system to make sure everything is dialed in properly. Have others considered this option with each firmware upgrade?

Ted adressed this a few posts ago.

BTW, Ted’s already mentioned earlier that Blue Sky lowers the noise floor and many of you have chimed in verifying how much blacker the silence is with Blue Sky.

I thought it would be fun to actually see that difference and so, one of our lab techs, Jonathan, measured on the AP the difference in noise between Massive and Blue Sky and then made a little animated GIF to demonstrate that difference so it’s easy to see.

I am attaching it here.

Have a look at the video I just posted. Your listening evaluation is confirmed with the tests.

Nice graph to show the difference. I thought Massive did a magnificent job in lowering the noise floor, but Blue Sky really clear out the last few clouds from the sky. The music is so clean and realistic, that I can almost shake hands with the musicians after performing.

The great efforts from PSA team to bring these free upgrades is truly appreciated.

fvector750, which YG model do you have? I have the Anat II monitor and the Anat III Woofers!

Attaching Ted’s reply to my question about MKII vs. pre-amp volume selection.
With the AirLens I can now use Roon volume control to change the MKII volume setting. Up to now I have had to use pre-amp to control volume.

Was wondering if MKII had a new sweet spot regarding volume setting.

I finally got a chance to do the AirLens and DS Blue Sky updates yesterday. Overall, very nice! I can’t pick up the specifics like other folks here, but the “feel” of the music is just better. I am still a little baffled by folks hearing the noise floor, must be my noise floor is higher than some here due to tinnitus. Hearing noise at -110 dB is impressive!

One comment, as a few others mentioned I needed the “image.bin” file on the USB drive to get Blue Sky to load. I did try it first with only the two files in the “Manual Update” folder, but when I powered the DS back on nothing happened. I used the menu to navigate to the “Firmware Update” option and it acknowledged Blue Sky and when pressed started erasing Flash Memory then loading Blue Sky. When done I power cycled but no change in firmware version, Massive still loaded. Did it a second time with same result. Not sure how it erased something but Massive was still there!? So I added the image.bin file to the USB stick and this time got the blinking light at power up and Blue Sky loaded properly. This is the first time in ten years I have had an issue updating firmware! Not a problem since I didn’t “brick” the unit. Keep up the great work Ted, Paul, and the rest of PS Audio!

I’m technically a newbie to the brand and kind of unexpectedly ended up with a pair of YG Ascents last year. But I must say, those Anats were some serious units from the original YG days that first appealed to me, though I would not be the one who would want to try to mount those midrange units.

I had followed them for quite a while but they were still a bit out of my range and I wasn’t confident I’d be able to sell the concept of silver or black speakers in the living space. When Cambridge Audio Sciences came on board with their new processes on the entry-level Peaks line I saw an opening and became very curious about their sound. I then came across a tidbit of information that YG was in a bit of a pickle because the Peaks line was beginning to outperform Reference II in some ways. So it was a pretty easy impulse purchase for me with an excuse that I’d just be sampling their sound until the Reference III was out. I’d been hit with some large unforeseen medical expenses, so an upgrade will have to wait a bit more; plus I could use some more time to work on selling the looks bit.

Use the time to get yourself better first!

I appear to have not discovered the trick of updates with a USB stick! I did the download of my computer, transferred the data to my USB stick, transferred the USB stick to the back of my DSD DAC, and turned to updates sub-routine. There I find a message saying that the DAC is “relooking for update files” but it never completes its task. I give up! I am looking to the file that is marked dsdmk2-v3.2.1.bin and fpgal-239-BlueSky.bin!
