I am feeling a bit foolish having just noticed this now on my DSD MKII I bought in Mar 2023. There’s an anomaly on the front top left of center of the unit as shown in the attached pictures. It looks like a clip that was installed improperly and the gloss black top was then placed over it so it is visible.
Wondering how to address this. Thoughts?
Remove the top!
The little “clips“ are part of the EMI shielding. You can see these toward the end of the video that Mark linked. I’m guessing that you bought the the DAC used and a previous owner took off the top but did not replace it correctly.
Wow – it’s strange that a unit passed quality control at PSA with such an obvious defect. But stranger things have happened. . . .
You might want to contact PSA’s tech support prior to addressing this. You know from the video how to get the cover off, which is not as easy with this DAC as with some equipment; but perhaps better to do it yourself and avoid the risk of shipping the unit. But who knows? You might find something else wrong once you get the cover off. Better to work with tech support from the get-go just in case. It’s possible that these “fingers“ cannot now be bent to fit properly, in which case PSA should send you new ones (or do the work themselves).

If I recall correctly, these little clips do nothing other than to satisfy EU regulations. Paul addressed this sometime in the past.
It’s not been a problem for me this far (since it took me 3 years to even notice). I do suppose that the clips are meant to be internal as the stock pictures I’ve seen don’t have those clips. Cosmetic annoyance at worst, right?

You are correct, it would very much matter then. However, unless I use it for PS Audio trade-in the resale value in a few years would be so low, I assume, that it wouldn’t be worth selling. I’d love to see PS Audio complain that I traded in a defective unit - one in the very same condition they sold me. I doubt that would happen, but the irony would be something else.
I’m actually not that upset about it figuring I can DIY fix it unless there’s some really tricky and delicate way to remove the top. I’ll get in touch with service to find out.
