Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition

Hey all. How do u get music copied from a usb external drive to play on the eversolo? I plugged into the otg usb and not sure what comes next? Duh

Add music to library, choose external drive.

Right. It’s that part about adding music to the library I’m missing. I see how to add a library - but I don’t see how to associate the external drive or import songs into the library.

I assume the otg port should be set to external storage.

When I hook my 5tb drive to the otg usb port the eversolo crashes after awhile.

You can also choose to ā€œplay local musicā€, then choose music from a file manager style screen.

I think there is a 4tb limit

Yeah… Roon is ā€œspecialā€ alright. So much so after dumping it months ago, I don’t miss it at all.

I hooked up a 5TB external drive to mine with no problems. There are two ports, the top port is the OTG port. I didn’t read the manual.

The 4TB limit is for installed M2 drives under the hatch at the bottom. I might have to talk you though it on the phone.

I sent you my phone number.
Things have changed since I first did this.
I turned the Eversolo on, let it come fully to life.
I plugged in a 5TB external drive, formatted to NTFS.
A window immediately popped up on screen asking if I wanted to connect to this drive.
It showed up with the Eversolo file explorer app.
I was given the option to play all files, but I couldn’t find any ā€œLibraryā€ functions. The first time I did it there were easily accessable Library options to add folders which I used. Hmmm.

Maybe ask on the Eversolo forum?

Found it. Use the phone app, it’s easier. If you haven’t tried it yet, get on it.
Plug the drive in, if it can read it, the window will pop up asking if you want to connect to it.
Say yes.
Go to the home screen on the PHONE APP. (Not the iPod app, not the A6 screen itself)
click on music player
up at the top, click on Library
hit the white plus in the gold circle
if you see the external drive scroll to the folder that all your music is in and add that folder. (Or just select the drive itself)

Thanks Al. Let me give it a look. There are 2 options for the otg port

Pc file transfer
External storage

Which should the otg port be set to?

External storage of course.
Unless yoy want to transfer files to a drive inside the Eversolo.

Hmm. Ok. I found everything u mentioned - the gold circle w white plus sign etc. I’ll try again. I had it set to external storage. Both times I hooked the drive up to the otg - the a6 crashes after about 5 minutes and I get an android recovery screen. But let me follow your specifics. I may have had it hooked up at boot in both cases.

Wait until the Eversolo is running properly.

This is untrue. When Roon have worked with the manufacturer in the past, and know their hardware, certification can be quick. Even my Zuma units went from the drawing board to full Roon Ready certification in 6 months. The hardware was new, but Zuma had the chief engineer of Naim in their team, who has years of Roon implementation experience.

As Roon Ready takes over the device, Roon has to be sure it works faultlessly.

Most devices, such as Devialet Expert, could be used Roon Tested before Roon Ready certification.

PSA have spent 6 or 7 years in streamer/server development without any products to show for it, and Roon are meant to certify third party products at the drop of a hat?

I use Lumin, every product is released Roon Ready without Roon certification delays.

There are many options for standalone streaming, but for multi-room, especially with multiple brands, Roon has no competition.

Roon Ready is a gift to the likes of PSA who are unwilling to commit the time, money and resources to developing their own app, and why around 100 manufacturers have Roon Ready status.

But who cares?

Clearly PS Audio do, because having failed to develop their own streaming platform, they built the AirLens (as with the previous Bridge I and Bridge II) around an OEM Roon Ready processor from ConversDigital.

It is also nonsense to suggest that Roon purposefully delay certification for ā€œmarketingā€ reasons. The sooner they certify, the more revenue they are likely to generate.

Roon’s brand value is reliant on it working perfectly. They came up short on this with Roon Air because of the complexities and vagaries of ethernet set-ups.

My comment pertains to you stating things that are common knowledge to most people like you have uncovered a secret truth. Stating the obvious like you do is at best, borish. Repent.

Hmmph. So it was up. Plugged it into the otg port and I get a dark screen and it is unresponsive. It will sit like this for awhile and then I’ll get words to the effect of an android recovery. You know - your typical computer crash screen.

I have another drive somewhere I used to use with my squeezebox touch. I’ll try that one.

When I get these usb drives they are basically plug n play and ready to go. I don’t do any specific formatting on them.

Maybe I’ll check out the zidoo forum next

Plug the drive into your computer and see if it is formatted NTFS. Also, try a different cable if possible. Your drive is the problem, not the Eversolo. We just have to find out why. Call me now.

I’m not sure about that. Don’t forget PSA has done Roon before. This is not the first time. They know what is involved. I will agree that they were a bit ADD on what product they wanted to bring to the market and it evolved over the past 3 years. Server / Software / Airlens. When the finally settled on AirLens, parts were issues. They do not commit to getting certified until they have the final parts list they will be going with.

I will probably not end up with one and I was one waiting for it. I have moved on. That is the sad part of the story, they missed the opening and the crowded market looks like a business day in Tokyo and super crowded with devices ranging from $200 - $20k.

P.S. I do have the credit with PSA so depending on what it goes for I may end up with one…lol… But I really don’t need it, but when has that ever stopped any of crazy nuts here.

Please do not muddy up this thread with endless banter about the AirLens and Roon and stuff like that. Read the title of the room. And don’t do it because Steven pushed you into it.

Please don’t feel obliged to reply to my comments on @elk’s post (Roon’s branding and marketing is ā€œWe are specialā€. Making manufacturers and users wait for certification is part of this branding.), which seems quite wide of the mark.

Roon seem far more accommodating on integration than some others, like Amazon. Most of my audio (Zuma) has Amazon HD on board. Amazon are far more demanding and selective who they partner with, but it’s a quid pro quo.
