In this case only 2, so 4 combos. You would think if you support I2S, you would label one and make sure it works with PSAudio the main stream supporter of the that format…
It’s all in the manual.
I dont know what to make of this. I can see the diff. values, but no idea what they mean. I have tried tow of these 4. I will try the other two.
I’ve owned one since the early Spring and used it with four different DAC’s from three different brands with no issues. I haven’t tried it with the DAC that’s still in it’s developmental stage going on nine months after it’s release. That from all I’ve read on multiple forums is the DAC that has compatibility problems with not only the Red but many other current streamers. So if you don’t own that DAC and follow the instructions in the manual it will work based on my experience. From strictly a streamer stand point unless you just want to experiment don’t know that it will better your Neo Stream.
The DS DAC’s are Alt 2.
Dip Switch[1: 2] Pinout
00 Holo
01 ALT2
10 ALT1
11 ALT3
Tried… fixes DSD. PCM flipped. Alt 1 (or 3 I cannot remember now - but its still set to that) flipped both. I have not tried the other two. BTW where in the instructions does it say what to do for what dac? Unless you own a Holo, its a guessing game. Not that there is a standard for I2S, so I am not surprised. Its not Holo’s job to tell you which one. Just pointing out the instructions are not instructions…its a table an you have have to “know” what your DAC does for pinout.
I may set the Holo to DoP. and see if that flips it to match the Eversolo.
You should do that anyway, as the DS MkII does DoP internally.
For both the Holo Red and both iFi streamers the best resource for information is the relevant threads on Head-Fi. All three threads are full of both power users and representatives from both companies. Same is true of the Eversolo where the best source of info is on the forum owned by the manufacturer Zidoo. And your right it’s not Holo’s job to identify which setting to use with any DAC other than their own. But that info has been in the Red thread since early on in the Spring.
Yes when I got the red a while back I found that and used it. I just recently found out it does not work in my setup. I thought it did as I use the DSD track to test and it was spot on. But I have been listening to my room backwards for PCM. I used a diff. track to test that. I found out when I grouped the two DACs and things jumped from one side to the other. Thanks for the tip for Head-Fi. I may just give up and sell the Red. I did want to do more comparisons between the two first, but not the end of the world if I do not.
I can appreciate how annoying this can be, Brian. It sounds like from one of your previous posts that it’s pretty much a feature difference between the Red and the A6. No apparent sound difference?
at first I thought so, but after burn in it seems very close. I am just using as streamer. So that sort of makes sense. Both are very good. Eversolo for the price offers so much more.
Should be easy to sell on Head-Fi or US Audiomart as they are still out of stock. I’m keeping mine as it just works especially with JPlay for IOS. My Eversolo will be here shortly to play with.
I too am just enjoying the hell out of streaming and questioning the need for my ripped files other than for backup. I have a ton of dsd and have yet to try them. I know I am late to this game but hey. I really like this little thing streaming into my MK I.
I’d like to add thanks to @aangen for pushing me a bit on this. I does sound better than my jriver /laptop setup. Anyone wondering if this is better than a laptop w hard disc and fidelizer. It is. And the fun factor can’t be ignored.
PSA (public service announcement, not ps audio, ha): Prices on the master edition starting to be listed as $1999 at some carriers. Summit still has it at 1299. If on the fence, now might be the time to take the plunge…
When I got my Standard edition, they said they were looking at raising the prices on all. The 1999 could be just markup due to popularity. hard to tell at this point.
Wow, that’s quite a price hike
$1999 in Canadian. I almost ordered one this morning but I am contented with Red for now.
Oops. Thanks for the clarification. Not such a psa after all, ha
I was panicking for awhile.
I was completely calm throughout.
