I am pleased to help spend others money.

I have my eyes set on a Mark Levinson No 523 for someone.

ok mine arrived yesterday, and i think i’m in love

Ran the FW update (just a tap on the screen to initiate and all happy happy)

Roon sees it immediately, and i tested with other services (airplay, tidal, podcasts, spotify, everything just sees it and starts to play lickety split. No extra config, no changing sources, nothing.)

For some reason AES/EBU is my preferred connection, and I am going USB into the Matrix X-SPDIF 2 and then AES/EBU into the Denafrips Pontus II.

I am crap when it comes to “which sounds better” but I can honestly say it sounds incredible. I feel like the soundstage is wider with this unit (have only tested as a transport) than the Pi/HAT setup.

The sad thing? The gear in my main system lives in a closet, so I don’t get to see that pretty screen.

I wanted the screen to be black all the time and it took awhile to get there even though the settings to do that were easy to find. But with early versions of the OS it was not always responsive to changes in settings. Worst case it showed time and date which is helpful to old guys like me.

Congrats on your new toy!!

Hello all,
I purchased a Matrix Element S for the i2s out. I own the Ifi zen as well a node2. I couldn’t get my Matrix to work with my Venus2’s i2s input, so purchased an Iris DDC. I now have the usb out of the Matrix into the iris, and the i2s out to the Venus. With only 20hrs burn in the sound is absolutely massive in all directions. I would really like to know how the streaming feature compares to the Ever Solo? The Matrix is currently waiting for Roon certification as well.

Regards
Jeff

For those who have attached a drive, is it seen on your network? Say you have a roon library on a mac/NAS/attached drive somewhere else, could I copy files to an Eversolo drive over the network?

Would be amusing to have carbon copy cloner keep the Eversolo drive sync’d with my local roon library files.

I have my internal M2 drive mapped to my Windows box, no problem. But transfers over local network are slow. I found have a USB drive plugged into the OTG port worked well. I used the Eversolo itself to copy between the two drives. easy.

Cool. I’ll maybe give it a try at some point. Initial copy i can do direct, then updates could happen over the network while i sleep.

If I needed this redundancy, that is.

Not sure I do, but i like the idea.

I tried the M2 and it worked. But in the end I think I will just use an attached usb drive. Since inhave to use that method to load the M2 that way figured I would return the M2 and just use my spare USB. I found like Al using network is extremely slow.

so, Al, I think you said the sound quality from files located on the Eversolo was better than the Eversolo streaming roon… was that right?

So then do you still use Roon at all for general streaming? or do you ignore roon and just use the Eversolo SSD (and its app)?

(And I know you have other streamers/sources, etc…)

I am not critical of the sound of Roon. It’s fine.
But I plan on using my A6 without Roon up at my lake place.
The A6 sounds excellent with it’s own music player from files streamed from it’s internal M2 drive. It sounds swell with Qobuz as well. It is an overachiever that can just be enjoyed.

I did copy an album to the internal 32GB drive, just to test, and it’s pretty slick.

My mac network sees it as a shared drive, and I can drag and drop and the eversolo iPhone app sees it and the DMP-A6 plays it.

Can’t tell much of a difference in sound quality, but if my internet ever goes down (everyone’s fear with roon), I could still stream local files.

gonna see if it can talk to my fridge

Good to know, sounds like a sonic over achiever.

Hopefully I wont ever need that functionality on my network. :grinning:

I had an internet outage this week that didn’t have any effect on Roon. This puzzles me. I was streaming local files at the time.

I know there was a thread on the roon forum that discussed this after 2.0 was released… I think they said intermittent issues weren’t too big a deal. Long-term outages tho, well, not so good.

(no specifics tho.)

Danny Dulai, unapologetically, said to assume that roon will work zero minutes after a network outage. Lots of folks did experiments with their systems working locally for all kinds of hours without internet…some experienced outages quickly.

It seems devices are really coming out faster and faster.

This one is from Italy.
