Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition

With both the Qobuz and Tidal under the Streaming category it plays just the album in the queue and either stops or goes into continuous repeat. On neither app does it go into the “radio” function like it does with any other streaming app. If you go into “Cast” mode and use the version of Qobuz under Music Apps you can sometimes get it to work normally and sometimes not. With Radio Paradise they only bothered to include the Main Mix and not any of the other options. I tried to bypass the Eversolo app too by using JPlay for IOS which works with any other UPnP device I have tried it with and it just plays one track of whatever album you chose and then stops. Same with playlists. There is supposed to be a major firmware update coming along with a “major” control app update but no time given for exactly when. The only Android device I have around the house is a current Fire tablet but they haven’t gotten the app approved by Amazon so can’t try that to see if the “bugs” are there too or just IOS related.

ah, gotcha.

I’m guessing roon is a non-starter?

Nope, not an alternative here. I will be patient and see what issues they can resolve in the next couple of weeks. Similar issues using JPlay for IOS that don’t exist with other streamers so something on their end implementation wise.

For what it is worth, the standard unit has just showed up again on amazon.com.

I am amused, my Fiio R7, with external linear power supply sits 9 inches away from my Eversolo DMP-A6 on my desk. One thing that REALLY bugs me about the R7 is there is no remote control app for my phone to control it. The R7 did come with a remote control, but it is not anywhere near as comprehensive and wonderful as the phone app is for the Eversolo. I also have a Fiio M17 portable brick that absolutely smokes the R7 and DMP-A6. It works in my car, on my boat, on my motorcycle, or my desk. It weighs a lot and it’s a big ass brick but it has a better DAC than either and it currently has a 1TB memory card in it. I power it at home with a linear power supply.

The two Fiio units are fun, I never talk about them though. I have been a hardcore Fiio fan for at least 8 years now and I have at least 8 Fiio devices, maybe more. Fiio headphones too. Before I came to this forum I spent most of my time on Head-fi.org. That seems like a generation ago.

Seems handy enough…

I did not listen to every, single minute of the review but I do not recall hearing any raves about the sound quality.

:man_shrugging:

Has anyone had a chance to compare the WiFi and Ethernet connections on the DMP-A6? Wondering/hoping that WiFi has comparable sound quality!

I run only WiFi with my DMP-A6 and never had an issue. I see no reason at all to try Ethernet. And Ethernet is easy here, I have it everywhere. The WiFi is exceptionally good.

Still no brave souls on the master edition?

rkindel has owned the Master Edition for weeks so ask him. If you are only going to use it as a streamer no reason for the upgraded version.

My Master Edition sounds better than I have ever hoped, even when using its own DAC. I have no way to say if it sounds better than the standard edition. Seems like the better clock and output stage should have some effect on the sound but who knows. More important is upgrading the power cord and isolating it from vibration some way. Both help the DAC in becoming an imaging and soundstage champ. I had no intention on using the internal DAC originally, but now I find it’s an interesting alternative for my external DAC. I even hooked up my CD transport via SPDIF and listen to it that way for a different flavor.

Playing with a Pi 4 lately, how it sounded barebone without any mods or tweaks with Ropieee to my McIntosh C2700’s usb help me to see how good sounding a device like the A6 can be. Thanks for the input.

I only use WiFi on the A6 and it works fine. The versatility of this unit, for the price, is pretty nice. As for its sound, however, I am underwhelmed. I have used it with and without its DAC, AES and USB inputs, stock and Dragon power cords. I went in on this puppy knowing that it probably would not rival cd or high res sources but I thought I could get close. It’s not close.
Since this was my first dive into streaming I thought like any other neophyte that I could be happy going cheap and upgrade latter. I don’t think I’ll last that long. Like Homer Simpson once said, “it’s back to stupid reality again”.

Sorry do you mean to say that this is your first time using a streamer? What were you using before? CD’s and local files only? Or have you used another streamer in the past?

That is correct. I’m a streaming virgin.

Sounds like synergy might be at play here.

Always a possibility and YMMV and all of that. My system is, I think, very resolving. In any case, my familiarity with it can reveal differences quite easily. This was not a tussle between the characteristics of good cables, cords and fuses. This addition was a wet blanket over everything.
Since I am new to this this may inherent in the streaming signal itself. I don’t know, but I do know what I hear.

This might be of interest to you as it is a pretty significant step up in build quality and the maturity of the streaming app. Michael doesn’t give any indication of how many of these units he will have to offer at this price.

Streaming by itself is a rabbit hole. My recent Pi experient let me to believe to get a decent streamer, the streamer core is the least important, they all run some forms of linux code one way or another. Cleaning the upstream network signal, power supply quality is more important.

Don’t think you have a power quality issue, so the only culprits left are the network signal also a good and clean digital output from the streamer with a good digital cable.

At least in my setup, a good test is a CD or SACD from a good reference player(I’m thinking top of the line Marantz, nothing exotic) doesn’t really beat out the same album from a streamer.

How deep you want to dig into the hole is up to you
