I think Darko in his review mentioned he thought it was a bit bright.
No, I noticed no bass problems when using as a digital transport. Bass problems I observed were with the internal DAC only.
I just tried the balanced outputs and noticed more bass. I prefer the single ended outs in my system, however, but take that with a grain of salt as I was using different brands of cables for each. Iām thinking I prefer my single ended AudioQuest Rubies (from back in the 90s) to my Benchmark balanced cables, marketed by the Benchmark DAC people.
Ok i am really loving this thing. I know there are better things, but what of it
Upsampling within Roon to DSD256, then to Eversolo,
USB into Matrix X-SPDIF 2,
then I2S into Denafrips Pontus II.
Luxman L-509X integrated amp out to KLH 5 speakers.
Undeniably more engaging than when I had the raspberry Pi (with Pi2AES HAT) streamer. Weird thing with that streamer HAT is that it DID have i2S out, but it was oddly digital and pixellated if thatās a thing. AES/EBU sounded great. (Could only upsample to 192 with that tho.)
But itās really next level here.
I am amazed by the soundstage, first and foremost. Full width of the room. Crazy.
Details and clarity yeah yeah⦠warm and supple, yeah⦠not noticing brightness, or at least not any kind of bad brightness (Does bright = thin and cold? Because itās far from that.)
Itās just working beautifully.
Judging from the internals of the Master Edition review video, it seems the master clocks are user changable, this would open many doors for tweakers. When would peeps here start doing that?
FYI I want to report back. I have a powered usb hub with two usb drives ( 1Tb and 5tb drives) running off the usb on the A6.
I go to library - scan the drive and Iām off. Search function on artist works similar to jriver. But probably nicer.
Lots of dsd and hi rez playing.
Iāve read the term bright being used to describe the A6 from a couple of sources now. I donāt hear that. Not when using its internal DAC and certainly not when being used as a digital transport.
Yeah, might be the reviewersā choice of supporting gear, too.
My Luxman + KLH 5 combo isnāt going to emphasize brightness, I donāt think.
I like detail, but not a fan of brightness. Gives me a headache.
I no longer can hear bright frequencies, which is a bit of a plus. When you come to my house, if you hear bright, keep it to yourself.
I also went ahead and picked up one of those M2 drives and installed it in the eversoloās belly.
Copied over all my local files (CD rips).
Not really planning on using that exclusively to play my music, as Roon works so well for that, but I think of it as yet another backup. Plus it could be used if I really felt the need to stream local files if the internet (and thus, Roon) goes down.
The Eversolo Music Player might actually sound better than Roon playing the files from the M2 drive. I donāt like saying that and I donāt like believing it but my experience with the A6 makes me a believer.
Just replaced my 1Tb drive with a 6tb drive. So I have 2 drives w a total of 11tb on a usb hub off the back of the A6 with the usb otg port. All disc completely scanned into the library. Pretty marvelous I must say. Total of 30k tracks. Searches are extremely fast with zero load time for the tracks.
This plus streaming is very swell I must say. Iāve yet to use the internal ssd option. Has anyone compared an external usb drive to the internal ssd drive for any sound diffs?
Hey there. So Iām running tonight with the eversolo screen shut off from the option on the power button. Not sure if itās psychoacoustic effects or if it sounds better this way?
sound quality with VU meters on is better
Reading through this whole thread has me very excited about the A6; however, question for youā¦I thought it doesnāt have USB outputā¦is that different with the Master Edition (do you have that one)?
Both versions have USB outputs as well as a USB slot for external drives.
The bottom old-school USB slot in the middle there is for audio out.
Mentioned above, but bears repeating:
Iām using USB to go into a Matrix X-SPDIF 2 then i2S into my Pontus II DAC.
Two thumbs up. Way up.
Have you tried the internal DAC of the A6?
(I borrowed the A6 from a forum member for a few weeks and did like the sound quality of the internal DAC when playing DSD256 files from a usb flash drive)
I will be honest, nope.
Iām pretending it doesnāt have one.
Thank you guysā¦should have seen thatā¦my (aging) eyes focused on ādigital outā.
