Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition

I am also intrigued by the Auralic Aries G1.1…currently on sale. Any reason to expect it to be better as a stand-alone streamer? I will not use the A6 as a DAC; have eyes set on a Weiss or Denafrips.

I also wonder how the DMP-A6 sounds compared to the Auralic Aries G1.1, Lumin U2 Mini, Aurender N150, Innuos Pulse - these were my primary targets for a streamer upgrade before the Eversolo came along…

Lots of youtube reviews out there. @paul172 compared is nicely modified Aurlic with the Eversolo. He said Aurlic was noticeably better. I forgot what DAC he was using. Most have been saying the 4-6k range of streamers do beat it, not by a ton, but they are better. Law of diminishing returns as usual apply.

I am planning to compare Eversolo to my Auralic Aries G2. I am still in the early stage of testing the G2, but so far, it’s the best streamer I’ve heard to this date. I would put Aries G2 in the Aurender N20 category. Definitely better than Lumin U2. Haven’t heard Innuos.

Auralic software is also a standout feature, but you will need an Apple device to control it. The sound quality is better than Roon, but optimizing Roon (turning off processor intensive feature) brought the SQ almost indistinguishable from the Auralic App.

I brought my standard edition DMP-A6 up to my lake place today. Euphony V3 server, gone. Chord Qutest DAC, gone. Keces P8 power supply, gone. The A6 replaces all three pieces. It sounds swell. Hooray! I am using the internal DAC. It seems fine.

Very interesting Aangen. That’s a lot of money invested that’s replaced by the A6; but with your experience I’m certainly convinced that it really is a very good / excellent product. Appreciate you sharing your observations and comparisons.

Simplicity certainly has its advantages.

It’s a great deal $1k off!

There was nothing wrong with the gear replaced by the A6. It probably sounds better than the A6. I didn’t do a comparison. @weedeewop is right, simplicity has its advantages.

But in this case, the A6 really performs well. I also think the phone interface is exceptional!

Just my own theory crafting:

Pro atheletes excels at certain sports due to years of training.

As audiophiles, the organ we train everyday is our ear-brain-music neupathways. Which in my opinion, is the biggest filter of all things audio, and it’s never the same.

Having said all that, we train this neupathway with better gear, day in, day out. The better gear makes this pathway “sounds” better, it’s like building a muscle. So with years of training, this trained muscle doesn’t really need very expensive and good gear to sound good, because it’s capable of making things out of thin air, filling out the blanks on the fly.

Hence why Al’s experience with the A6. But for us that is still on entry level 40k gear racks, we have a long way to go.

Like what a youtuber always say: “Enjoy the music”! That’s what’s really important.

Interesting, but I think it’s just the opposite (though I don’t disparage your opinion). I think once you have gone up the ladder it is very difficult to settle for less competent equipment, if sonic purity or sound quality is your prime concern (you can’t unhear the differences the better equipment delivers, basically, and you’ll always be aware of what your are missing).

That doesn’t mean you can’t go backwards, and there are any number of reasons you might want to (save costs, save space, downsize, whatever).

Well, like I say, that “filter” in our head never works the same way. We’ll never get to the same conclusion as we journey forward, after we get let in the door, the exploring part is purly an individual experience. Some the individual experiences co-relates, some, are totally mutually exclusive.

And I have been finding that I like 2 different types of audiophile gear. I like the clean & smooth Class A solid state sound and also like the vibrance of tubes. I hear different positives with both types of sound, and have sort of settled on liking jazz and classical with tubes in the signal path (with instruments sounding just right), and solid state with rock and other cleaner audiophile music.

Just another follow up.

So I have my usb hub hooked to the back of the eversolo and one of the drives stayed lit all the time. So I moved the drive down a slot. And bingo it shuts off. I must have been getting some power off the hub in the first slot by the power connection. Crazy.

Secondly … I get this drop on the phone app fairly regularly. It loses connectivity. I can still hit the web from my phone though. The A6 itself never loses connectivity via Wi-Fi

New control app update today with a new appearance.

Thanks I just downloaded it.

What is the version number of the new control app? I have 1.1.75, I think. Someone said there was a .85 version? My app states I have the latest version. Thanks.

Don’t really see any significant changes other than layout. There is supposed to be a firmware update later in the week to address some issues with streaming API’s along with other operational bugs.

It’s not the firmware Rob as that is the latest until later in the week. This is a new layout for the Eversolo app itself you’ll need to get from the Apple or Google store.

Thanks. Loving this little wonder machine! It does so much, and does it well, for so little! Don’t miss my Lumin X1 at all! I was going to buy a more expensive DAC and use the A6 as a streamer but haven’t felt the need (or compulsion) to do so!
