Try one of these… You’ll love it!

I’d appreciate if one of the early adopters of this transport could try playing a DSD128 file from a USB stick, plugged into the PST, to see if the signal going to the DS DAC via I2S will be accepted and played as DSD128.

Has anyone done the following comparisons?

  1. Same SACD playback on PST compared to Oppomod I2S BDP-203
  2. DSD file via USB stick on PST vs same SACD on PST (i.e. the Octave Records recordings)

Just Three key-impressions over the last three days with my PST:

  1. Effortless dynamics without digital edges
  2. Natural coloured vocals and Instruments
  3. Three dimensional precise soundstage.

Thanks again Paul and Team!

Here is my unit playing DSD128 via USB key.

If problem, I will try

  1. Main power cycle the PST
  2. maybe cable? try another hdmi cable maybe.
  3. Forget to mention that, make sure the Unit has the latest Firmware.

Try the OOTA DSD files on USB vs OOTA SACD, I cannot hear the difference. Note that, My system is not highly resolving. (SGCD / M700 / DSDAC / PST / LINN Keilidth + JLAudio D110s )
In the first place, I thought transport is just “transport”. But two things happened during my beta testing.

  1. I was using cheap SONY DVD as transport before rcvd PST, redbook CD playback from PST sound better.
  2. During the beta testing, there were 3 Firmware update, the final update, not only fixed major bugs, but also improve the sound. Redbook CD becomes alive.

Well, cannot rule out the psychological effect that PST is $6k and Sony DVD player was ~$100

You have one?

Yes…

I can’t believe how small that display is. The track number was much larger on the DMP and people complained they could not see it from their listening seat across the room.

I, for one, am pleased PSA concentrated on the sound instead of cute features.

Most transports and disk players have smallish simple screens.

Please keep reporting your findings. I’m thinking of trading in my DMP.
Thanks

I also much prefer the simple, small display…

Is it as good as the reviews?

For my ears,I have never heard a better digital playback system. I think Steve Guttenbugh nailed it in his review…

I’ll tell you a more concrete example: Omar Bachir is playing the lute Oud. His compositions, especially on his CD Taqasim, are very forceful, differentiating the complex maqams, he is delineating for his listeners. With digitally sounding sources there is always a specific digital power with edges in his plucking. Some people like it. But it is not natural and is not differentiating the lutestrikes, Omar Bachir is setting on his instrument. With PST the instrument is presented “unplugged”, just feeling the wooden corpus. PST sounds very rich and coloured but also highlighting all the diversity and resoultion of all the overtones created by whiring strings. You are much involved in the very pure sound of Omar Bachir’s music. Listening very quiet with PST, PST gives you more details. Listening louder, PST gives you more pleasure without any harshness but higher and very solid resoluted. PST is not causing any “digital stress” by producing digital artefacts. Overall you will get more insight in music with PST than with DMP. I’m not saying, that DMP is outclassed by PST. But PST is just giving you more music and more nativeness in music reproduction via DSD. Very rich and delicate …

Sorry, I thought you were referring to the new PSA PST. I took your note out of context.
