no help in my case - well, tbh a couple issues cleared up (trigger to bhl amp for example), but still not bit rate and sometimes still stuck spinning when looking for a source (full shut down unplug for a minute or so and factory reset required to remedy).
wondering if anyone else has same (switch from USB to Optical or other then back to USB and lose bit rate display on USB, tho retained on optical)
wish i could add a photo, but AI button blocks on my device - that needs to be sorted too - after DAC issues tho
Hi Chris - apologies but where can i find more details on what the different filters (linear, circular etc.) do and maybe an idea of how they are designed to affect the sound and what is regarded as the ‘default’ filter setting? Many thanks
Just downloaded this but have not updated. The new firmware is for the PMG 512 DAC. It’s mislabeled for the pre. (I’ve notified PMG…aka…Paul, in another thread)
Edit to add…As I’ve said before, I’m a glutton for punishment…what else do I have to do on a Sunday night. I’m going in, cover me, going to update. Will report and pic’s coming.
Updated to Firmware 3.0.3 and also new Streamer Firmware 3.0.12. Success! and I tested various sample rates. Streaming via Roon ROCK on random right now. Track transitions are smooth. So far, zero issues. No clicks, no ticks, no pops through PMG DAC, PRE and BHK 250.
After firmware update, powered down, pulled the USB drive and then powered up. There were several relay clicks and then I checked the streamer firmware…
One preference in the previous FW display…now, when in SR mode and the DAC muted, the stream rate changes from white to a faded blue(?). I actually preferred the slash through the volume numbers. The size of the stream rate is smaller than the old volume number view, so maybe it’s not so easy to see a slash? This, my only very small niggle with the update, and it’s not a deal breaker.
Thank you for the sample rate display. Perhaps a little larger font for reading from across the room. But where is the bit depth? The direct stream Mk II showed both sample rate and bit depth (16,24,32).
Hi, as a novice with the PMG DAC and its upgrading process, I am a little confused and seeking some help. I have downloaded the V3.0.3 package and read through the Upgrade Guide. However, while I have 2 PDF re is a .bin file. The guide says unzip but nothing seams to be able to read the format to unzip on my Mac. I tried just copying it to a USB drive and plugging it in to the DAC but after switching off then on, it simply re booted. What am I missing? Any advice great.y appreciated.
If you can see the .bin file, you have already unzipped it. All you really need on that USB stick is the .bin file. Follow the instructions on the Firmware Update Instructions.pdf More or less, copy the bin file to the USB stick, plug it into the DAC, turn it on and let it update itself.
I have followed the instructions but the DAC is simply rebooting after a few seconds without the Logo blinking 25 times as per the instructions. I have tried this several times now and no update occuring….frustrating
Just to make sure, you are putting the just the .bin file on the usb NOT the .zip file right? Try a different stick also. You may need some help from PSA as it doesn’t seem to be reading the file for some reason.
Many thanks for helpful advice. I tried a different usb stick and this time it worked….now sitting back and listen to some music. DAC has had over 100 hours burn in and is super impressive. There is a warmth there which sounds incredible, not as digital as other dacs. So, again, thanks for the advice.
Sorry if that’s confusing. Sounds like you did fine. On your MAC just double click the zip file, as you have, and you’re left with the 2 PDF and one BIN file.
You did great. No more to unzip.
Take the BIN file and place that (and only that) on the USB stick and insert that in the back of the PMG 512 and power cycle.
I struggled some to get this done but all working great now. Sometimes it seems I do the exact same process and it eventually works. Or need to click a button a few times and then it works
