Firmware update for PMG 512 DAC

I did the download over wifi it’s just spinning on the updating part almost 30 minutes. Should I use the USB instead?

Others will have advice how to get out of the spinning loop. It looks like you are updating the streamer firmware - that is done through wifi (OTA - over the air). Updating the DAC side is through USB.

Mine was just spinning on my first attempt - I shut the PMG off on the back for 30 seconds - then restarted and all went well…

Hi Paul, thanks for the message. I think my Mac automatically unzips the file. My download from the Firmware site shows up as the 3 files as you mention. I think my issue was the USB stick. My second attempt was a different stick which worked immediately.

I appreciate your support plus the tremendous PS Audio community. I’m really enjoy the DAC….before the upgrade and after. Brilliant product.

I recall from the distant past the for the thumb drive to be recognized by PS Audio gear it needs to be formatted as fat, no?

New FW: Seems all my PMG 512 issues have hereby been addressed - sound is amazing as always, sample rates, sticking, endless spin all rectified. Very stoked.

Thanks. And yes, I think t requires FAT for the structure. Glad you got it going.

I just have to give recognition to PS Audio and Delia who personally called me because @Paul asked her to, unfortunately I was going into sinus synoplasty (NOT recommended by the way) for my issues with updating the 512 but I was not at home. Now that is customer service!

I just want to give credit when credit is due from PS Audio emplyess Delia, Chris Harden, James Herod and Taylor Newbury it has been a pleasant experience and even though I am investing more than I planned on I feel that it is appreciated on the vendor side.

“Travaii bien fait”

Not to be The Wolf or anything, but:

Anyone else experiencing a bit of a skip in volume levels when adjusting with the remote (mines is set to B)? Am holding it down for either increase or decrease when the 512 does this.

Used to be smooth numerical order, now seems almost to ‘catch,’ then jump either way I am going… sounds mover similarly was more ‘analogue’ prior to update

I’ve been doing the following for close to a decade without any failure.

OS: Windows
USB Stick: 8GB
Format: FAT32
Quick Format every use

Completed both FW upgrades but now the ground lift option screen is missing. Anyone else experience this?

after upgrade no option to turn streamer off? weird.

and DSD rate shows as “Linear” after reboot, neither 256 or 512 button selected after reboot. Can select either and then menu shows the correct rate, after a short burp. This setting is not sticking through reboots.

I did the DAC FW upgrade (but not the streamer) and the ground lift was still there although the setting was lost. The max/fixed volume settings were also lost. There was no problem resetting these.

Settings with new DAC firmware:

Streamer Power: Can no longer power off the streamer and turn it back on from the screen. Please put this back. After the upgrade Roon saw the streamer, but a couple of days later it disappeared and won’t come back.

Ground Lift: I can no longer find this setting.

DSD rate: After the upgrade, the setting said Linear and 128 was new (I think). I changed it to 512 and now the Linear setting is gone. I’m not sure what Linear meant.

Max & Fixed Volume: These settings are at the top of the Audio setting menu. You may need to scroll to get there. Blue arrows on the right tell if there are more settings available in either direction.

Input label choices: Still no choice for PMG Transport. I would prefer adding the option to enter your own custom label.

Oh, well; back to 2.9.3 for me. Maybe some of the ideas from the thread from which this post is taken: Suggestion for PMG 512 display layout - #17 by flenser55

I never tried the ground lift option, but after the update it is gone. I do like the digital format display when using fixed volume. :+1:

Strange I still have the ground lift option - below three dots in the menu. Must admit some of the other settings not really sure about such the input power option

Yes Stream on/off power button gone. but streamer can be turned off from Input Power setting.

Ground Lift setting is there, but all reset.

DSD rate became linear! since you pointed it.
very unexpected and strange.i changed it back to 512.

I found ground lift option. Never tried it. what are some of the favorite settings from your guys?

I changed the DSD setting to 512, and I do not know if that will do anything. No time for music this morning but will turn it on this afternoon.
