First music of the day

Had a great dinner with my brother and sister-in-law, so good to have a long talk with them about this year and its many events. Now a very cool morning with a hungry dog and a stereo system warming up.

This is the second time I’ve revisited this recording from the mid-nineties in the last wo mnths. It sounds so good on the system now and I appreciate it in a new way.

Busy day, just enough time for a quick one.

Weather Report “Sweetnighter” Columbia LP

Listening to this one more time before refiling it. Such memories this vinyl evokes. A cool morning and Fiona let me sleep an hour plus longer and I’m grateful. Saw a doe and a yearling in my back yard this morning. She wasn’t worried about Fiona but was staring me down. I just stood there (about 60 feet away) and talked gently to her. After a few minutes she moved her kiddo along slowly into the wood between my nearest neighbor and our property. Was a great moment.

I love the bass playing of Messrs Vitous and White on this album!

Saw Chuck Nessa was playing this box set on another forum and realized I haven’t listened to it for some time. Now playing record 1.

Very nice, approachable set from tenor man Rich Perry. He’s a member of the Maria Schneider Orchestra and has also played on several albums led by drummer Mareike Wiening.

Again, because mid-way through yesterday’s listening my wife decided to turn “Viet Nam in HD” up way loud downstairs and the Quintet was punctuated with explosions and helicopter sounds loudly from behind . . . not ideal.

Great performance!

Music not used in the film. I’m not crazy about that film. . . and I like this album better than the soundtrack album.

Dexter Gordon, Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Palle Mikkelborg, Herbie Hancock, Cedar Walton,
Ron Carter, Mads Vinding, Pierre Michelot,
Billy Higgins Tony Williams, Bobby McFerrin, John McLaughlin, Bobby Hutcherson

My first listen today. The last 3 tracks of this CD are her Cello Sonata in B-flat Op. 46, which I heard a lovely live performance of last night.

John Hicks Trio “Nightwind: An Erroll Garner Songbook” HighNote cd

Swinging my way into this cold morning. Up earlier than I’d like to be but I’ll spin a few discvs and try to get Fiona the dachshund back to sleep and take a nap myself.

This is a great disc!

Just in yesterday from Japan. . . this is now my best sounding version of this perhaps favorite Andrew Hill session.

RIP Mr. Haynes.

Revisiting Anna Hoberg Attack.

Heart Trio offering up a fine vibe this morning.

Rain here this morning. Fiona the dachshund let me sleep longer, and then there was a toilet emergency downstairs I had to diagnose and fix (nothing big, chain kink had kept the tank from refilling) but by then my wife was up and listening time was unavailable.

I am listening now. . . to the latest Jarrett release that came in from Japan Tuesday, “The Old Country” (more material from the Deer Head Inn concert with Motian in the drum chair). Mine is the SHM-CD edition.

Another fascinating Bill Evans release. Seems a good fit for this cold rainy (very soggy) morning.

“The Bill Evans Album” Sony Blu-Spec CD2

This originally released 1971 album featured four new Evans compositions, and was the first album to feature only his compositions.

With Eddie Gomez and Marty Morell.
