Forgot how good this one is. . . both musically and engineering wise. Dynamic and clear live recording.

Dave Douglas Quintet “Live at the Jazz Standard” disc 1

Miles Davis At Newport 1955 - 1975 (The Bootleg Series Vol 4) . Fair amount of snow here, 7-1/2 inches. overnight Good day to hunker down and spin vinyl. But first I’m taking the easy way out streaming the above as the box set isn’t handy.

I should add that the 2007 release Dave Douglas Live at the Jazz Standard is intriguing, and not having a copy it is high time a pick one up.

Streaming Dave Douglas Quintet Live at the Jazz Standard as I type this. Uri Caine’s keyboard work is great on this one! I’ve neglected Uri’s work for far too long. Overall a very nice set with great sound!

Starting the day off with some of the final sides from Frankie Trumbauer. IMO good stuff!

Yes. These are excellent.

Again, Duke Ellington “Indigos” mono Columbia LP

A bit of snap and crackle here and there on this copy but man the sound. . . I love both the stereo and mono on this one. (And there are multiple differences between the two).

That’s a great album, and an appropriate selection for first listen of the day - when I was in architecture school in Milwaukee in the late '70s, classical radio station WFMR played jazz from midnight to 6:00 AM, and 5 nights a week, at midnight, the decidedly quirky Ron Cuzner’s “The Dark Side” program began. He started each broadcast with the same opening theme - the version of “Solitude” that’s on this album. His show was on every radio in the design studios during our late-night sessions and all-nighters. So the song has a history, at least in Milwaukee, of being the first piece played in the day.

A fantastic album. I love the piano introductions to many of the tunes. Ellington was always an interesting pianist.

Dipping my toe into this deluxe box set for a first listen, literally, as well as a first listen of the day. The box set includes Wayne’s comic book, 3 CDs and3 LPs. I started in on the first of three LPs.

I must say it is hard to go wrong with Ellington Indigos for a first listen, magnificent choice.
