This cd sounds incredible on my system today.
Followed by
Herbie Hancock “Maiden Voyage” Blue Note Japan Platinum SHM-CD
This disc also sounds incredible this morning.
Miles Davis “Miles Smiles” Sony Blu-Spec CD2
Enjoying the warm morning while it lasts. Some of the sloping sheet of ice that is my driveway has melted, that’ great I think.
Starting off with this classic in great sound. I almost listened to the Bootleg Series volume that features these tape reels, but decided to just hear the familiar glory of the released material only.
Followed by
Arturo O’Farrill “Blood Lines” Milestone cd
A great debut!
Influenced as much by my post on another forum thread I am playing Clusone Trio/Clusone 3 Rara Avis. Our Maine Coon cat, Kafka, was outside monitoring local bird activity this morning. Hearing The Buzzrd Song opening he ran in looking for the birds.
New release of duets recorded in 2002 and 2005 by Fred Frith on acoustic guitar and Shelley Burgon on harp.
A warm morning. Ye olde dachshund Fiona wouldn’t let me go back to sleep, at least not yet. . . so I started the listening with
Dave Holland Big Band “What Goes Around” ECM cd
I really enjoy this ensemble, the arrangements and performances. And the sound is very good.
On to
“Chet Baker Sings and Plays” Pacific Jazz/Blue Note 85th Anniversary UHQCD
I had an itch for some additional Traffic this morning, so am streaming On the Road. I had forgotten just how much On the Road meanders. Listening to Glad/Freedom Rider and all I wanted to do was substitute this, much preferred album. I should add I do dig the On the Road album cover.
Following up with:
The warmth continues, thank goodness. Starting the day off with this beautiful sounding issue of a beautiful album.
“John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman” SHM-SACD Impulse Japan
On to
“Miles Davis In Person Friday Night and Saturday Night at the Blackhawk, Complete” Columbia 4 cd set, disc 3
Another desert island album.
Starting off the day with some killer guitar quartet music.
Tal Farlow “The Complete Verve Tal Farlow Sessions” Mosaic Records cd box set, disc 6
Mario Adnet/Philipp Baden Powell “Afro Samba Jazz - The Music Of Baden Powell” Adventure Music cd
Re-visiting this fantastic disc. Perfect for this cool morning.
Darn, cold again, and even some snow (a little).
Staying with this excellent set, disc 2 now.
Arturo O’Farrill and Chuco Valdes “Familia”
ON TO
Artemis “Arboresque” Blue Note cd
Their third just arrived last night. Nice!
Pianist Renee Rosnes, trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, saxophonist Nicole Glover, bassist Noriko Ueda and drummer Allison Miller
Listening to the new Artemis release via Quboz, I agree Lon, a real nice set and it sounds great.
Starting off a cold morning with one of my favorite releases of this decade:
Joel Ross “Who Are You?” Blue Note cd
Joel Ross, vibes, with Jeremy Corren on piano, Immanuel Wilkins on alto saxophone and Jeremy Dutton on drums, Kanoa Mendenhall on bass. Harpist Brandee Younger is also featured on five of the album’s tracks.
Followed by something different.
David Crosby “Lighthouse” GroundUP cd
Continuing with Wuorinen (I guess that makes it the “second” music of the day) and his Arabian Felix for Flute, Bassoon, Violin, Guitar, Vibraphone & Piano.
“The Duke Ellington Centennial Edition” disc 22, mostly “The Popular Ellington”
Starting the morning off re-listening to most of this exxcellent disc which was the last I played yesterday, It promises to be warmer today.
On to
