Joe Locke David Hazeltine “Mutual Admiration Society” Sharp Nine cd
I have enjoyed revisting this and “2” its sequel. I especially like the lower tempo numbers where the vibraphone “rings out” more. Engineering is really nice on this–all instruments are well portrayed and the overall balance seems very natural.
Something different than my usual. I bought this after seeing her Austin City Limits performance and being very impressed.
I think I would have mixed and mastered this differently but I like this music. She’s exhibiting a bigger Prince influence than I noticed before, and man can she SING.
A different release than his first two on Blue Note, the first to include vocals. I love the sound of Wilkins’ alto, and his writing is always interesting.
Weather here is gorgeous this morning. Windows open and the fresh air feels great. Up first today is Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio’s new album Requests on SACD. I almost reached for some classical, but I can’t get enough of this album. I played some of this and some older work by the Trio on my jazz radio show last week and the studio phone lit up with calls. They’re not widely known in the US outside of the audiophile market, and that’s unfortunate. The CDs are mostly expensive imports and that doesn’t help. Great music and a great trio.
Highly recommend!
Ha! The composer of the first record I ever bought. When I was a little kid in the early '60s my very first record was a 45-RPM single - a song called “Palisades Park” by Freddy “Boom-Boom” Cannon. It was written by Chuck Barris of Gong Show fame.
