First music of the day

I have both. Not digging them as is–not my taste all effected up. Oh well.

Great album. Late start playin rekids.

A big storm passed through two hours or so ago. About half the blooms on our dogwood have been dashed to the ground. No damage that I have discovered yet however. Going to be a mild day, I think.

Starting off with a newly arrived cd from Lauren Henderson, “Musa.” Great choice of tunes, and nice, nice, nice. What a sensuous voice.

Followed by

Melissa Aldana “Visions” Motema cd

Melissa Aldana (tenor saxophone)
Sam Harris (piano)
Pablo Menares (bass)
Tommy Crane (drums)
Joel Ross (vibes)

There’s just not enough coffee this morning. Long week. It’s a relaxing classical morning here with a new release from double bassist Lorraine Campet and pianist Nathanael Gouin. Listening on Qobuz now in hi-res, and CD on the way from Europadisc. I couldn’t find the the CD in the States. Looks like it might be a limited edition release according to her Bandcamp.
My speakers and subs are loving this. New cables for the subs coming this week. I’ll have this one on rotation for the demo along with some bass heavy jazz and rock tracks.

Sounds quite good (CD)
Then I played the LP. More good as expected.

The day is starting off even a little cooler than yesterday, but it should be about as warm as yesterday, but sunnier. That sun will be welcome!

Popped in another volume in this excellent songbook series from Lumiar Records.

“Songbook Vinicius De Moraes Vol. 3”

And on to this swinging disc.

“Harry Connick, Jr. 20” Columbia cd

Started with LP 7 and 8 because I was in the mood to listen to Wayne Shorter.
Tony Williams was brilliant as usual.
Sound is excellent.

Starting off another very cool morning with some Kenny Burrell. Kenny is just such a tasteful master.

Kenny Burrell “God Bless the Child” CTI Legacy cd

I like this one more and more as time goes by. Some really nice Freddie Hubbard here, and all those cellos are nicely woven in.

Following up with a more modern sextet recording of heavyweights.

“Black Art Jazz Collective presented by The Side Door Jazz Club” Sunnyside cd

Starting off a cool rainy morning with a classic I haven’t played for some time.

John Coltrane “A Love Supreme” Impulse Japan SHM-SACD lp facsimile cd.

This particular edition sounds amazing.

Now something quite different. . . .

A “best of”, in this case Lee Morgan. Easy on the ears after an early morning yard clean-up following recent rain and wind storms. A few branches scattered about, now cleaned up.

I’m enjoying the cool but it has been cooler than usual this week. Yesterday was just rain all day, hopefully that system has passed.

Started off with some comparative listening to Miles Davis “ESP” digital releases. Started off wtih the most recent Blu-Spec CD2 release which seems the Wilder remix, then listened to portions of the earlier Blu-Spec CD2 which is of a Japanese release and closer to the OG if not the original. I prefered that–the stage is a bit more forward, usually not my preference, but the imaging and body of the imaging was more satisfying. Now lisening to the Mobile Fidelity Lab SACD and relaxing into it’s sound.

Now you have me thinking I should return to my MoFi LP reissue. BTW, it is a most enjoyable performance regardless of which reissue.
