First music of the day

Misha Mengleberg’s Instant Composers Pool ICP 021 Yi Yole, with saxophonist Dudu Pukwana and percussionist Bennink. Spontneous and free with an underlying lyricism. For example the second track The KIng of Weasal is Called Easel. A 1978 September performance from the ICP Jubilieum Festival at Uithoorn, Holland.

Late start to listening but did catch up on some TV watching.

Cool still. But maybe a direr day? I miss the sun.

Starting off with a new arrival, Tubby Hayes and Paul Gonsalves, “Change of Setting,” a Harkit cd. Paul, Tubby and Ray Nance!

On to

Pepper Adams “Urban Dreams” Palo Alto cd

Pepper Adams – baritone saxophone
Jimmy Rowles – piano
George Mraz – bass
Billy Hart – drums

The Mars Williams Devils Whistle performance last night brought back many fine musical memories. A tribute to the late musician celebrating his music and 70th birthday. I learned that a Devils Whistle film is forthcoming from documentarian Kim Albert. Initial plans for a Fall 2025 release.

Downright cold (that damp cold) morning. Starting off late with a great trio recording. . . .

Danilo Perez “Panamonk” impulse cd

I can’t believe how great the system has sounded lately. It’s been a real solace.

Followed by one I have not heard in too long.

Cold this morning, but it’s going to be a beautiful day for a solemn holiday.

Easing into the day with a beautiful disc. The system is giving me a lush listen.

An excellent album I have forgotten about. Easily resolved this morning before a quick round trip up north to check on things and drop off three sets of record shelves.

A warm morning. A bit groggy from some nice extra hours of sleep.

Starting the day with some nice solo piano from Richard Beirach on Blue Note cd, “Sunday Songs.” Perfect for my current mindset.

Followed by

Keith Jarrett “Sunbear Concerts” Encore disc

A cool morning before a beautiful day. I’m looking forward to the regular Friday breakfast with one of my sisters- and brothers-in-law.

Starting off with this great release–so nice to have more music so many years later from this concert.

It is COLD today, for May.

My listening schedule has been morphing lately as with the passing of my dog I’ve been waking up later and my wife has been waking up earlier and I don’t now generally get to dive into listening first thing.

Today we got to meet with one of Lucinda’s sisters and brother-in-law who live about 90 minutes away here locally for lunch, which was really nice. Lucinda’s sister Ann has been blind about 20 years and her husband Chris is the role model of a loving spouse and takes incredible care of her while also having a demanding job. I love these people.

Now I’m finally in front of the main system. I started off with

Keith Jarrett “New Vienna” ECM cd
