Happy cake day! Now, about that British music for a Japanese anniversary …
Lost our internet from 5:00 p.m. or so til 2:00 a.m. Back now and catching up.
Now playing
Steve Lehman Octet “Travel, Transformation and Flow”
More than a bit outside but resembling my brain this morning that is only linear when my dog is barking looking for more food.
I’m sure there’s an interesting story behind the commission as well as its rejection, but I only know the latter - the Japanese government felt it was too gloomy and not celebratory enough. Critics have agreed the 1940 piece is tinged quite a bit with Britten’s feelings about the previous war and the run up to the new one.
Cassandra Wilson “Live” Winter & Winter cd
Long time no play–system has improved since then. A great listen.
Tom Harrell “Labyrinth” RCA Victor cd
My best friend and avant-garde trumpeter has long been a Harrell fan and I’m finally “getting” him as I hadn’t before.
A mellow warm start to a cool fall morning.
Vinicius Cantuária “Silva” Hannibal cd
Cello – Hugo Vargas Pilger
Keyboards, Sampler, Flugelhorn – Jun Miyake
Percussion – Chacal, Cidinho
Trumpet – Michael Leonhart
Viola – Marie-Christine Springuel
Violin – Bernardo Bessler, Michel Bessler
Voice, Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Loops, Drums, Cymbal, Percussion, Producer, Keyboards – Vinicius Cantuária
I’m listening to this to open up the morning.
Bill Fisell “Four” Blue Note cd
Until recently, I knew nothing about guitarist Lorne Lofsky but now I can’t get enough of his playing.
His comping is very similar to Ed Bickert, which is very piano-like, very musical. You can hear that he’s accomodating the bass and the horn, so his chords are primarily inside. Nice.
Steve Lehman, good stuff. I get a notuion that losing the internet implies you may have streamed the Steve Lehman.
Yup, early Casandra Wilson is stupendous.
No, I do not stream, did not stream. Internet is not required for me to listen, and anyway it had been restored at 2:00 a.m. (I woke up and checked) before I began listening at 5:00 a.m.
I thought maybe you’d joined the world of streaming while I was away due to you referring to a loss and restoration of internet service.
I’m not going to go streaming in any near future. I don’t want to stream, and I have no audio money for a new source etc. for a long time to come if then. That afternoon I lost internet from Spectrum (but still had cable), couldn’t surf or post. My many thousands of discs let me play music as long as I have power.
I stream to shop for music to buy on vinyl. All you need is a Node ($499) and your computer. It plugs into your DAC and off you go. And if your CD player dies or you break your cantilever, you can stream rather than buying an interim transport. Just a thought.
Not anything that interests me. I have other ways to find new music, and I think new vinyl is overpriced and a risky buy, I have never been impressed with streaming sound, and I have backup front ends. Thanks for the suggestions.
