Claudia Villela “Asa Verde”
Found a cheap copy of this often expensive cd. I really like Villela’s work. She’s quite a singer with an interesting tone.

Back to this one before it gets swallowed up by the shelves again.
Such a great “anthology” of sessions.
Bill Evans “Treasures” Elemental Music 2 cd set, disc 1
The system is sounding so good this morning!
This one, just in yesterday from amazon. Great!
Ed Motta “The Tea Leaves Chronicles” MPS cd
It indeed is a well known masterpiece. Maybe BECAUSE of his initial problem with this mistuned piano.
Abbey Lincoln “Abbey Sings Billie–Live at the UJC” Enja/Solid Records Japan cd
Some great Harold Vick on sax!

"Miles Davis Live at the Plugged Nickel: Tower Records/Sony SACD box set, SACD 1
Replaced my missing, or more likely misfiled, Acoustic Sounds Thelonious Monk Quartet Thelonious in Action LP. A fine sounding stereo reissue with Johnny Griffin, Ahmed Abdul-Malik, and Roy Haynes. Nice sounding dead stereo quiet vinyl. A great listen for the start of the day!
Daduka Da Fonseca “Samba Jazz & Tom Jobim”
Fantastic to start the morning off with this favorite Brazilian jazz disc.
I really like listening to Maucha Adnet sing. There’s a wonderful texture to her voice and if there’s one thing she knows, first hand, it’s the music of Maestro Jobim.
Miles Davis “Complete Live at Plugged Nickel 1965” Sony SACD box set, disc 2B
Dexter Gordon “Night Ballads, Montreal 1977” Uptown cd
Someone was asking about this on the Hoffman board days ago and so I found it in the shelves. Sound is okay, and Dexter playing ballads is always a great listen. Early morning here is a little like night, or as close to it as I usually can get in listening time. The mood is right.
Bill Dixon Vade Mecum II, with Barry Guy and WIlliam Parker on bass, and Tony Oxley on drums. There is a bit of a tie-in with Carla Bley as Bill Dixon’s 1964 October Revolution in Jazz at Manhattan’s Cellar Cafe led to establishing the Jazz Composer’s Guild. The Jazz Composer’s Guild evolved into the Jazz Composer’s Guild Orchestra in 1965 organized under the leadership of Michael Mantler and Carla Bley. The Jazz Composer’s Guild Orchestra which ultimately became the Jazz Composer’s Orchestra Association. Preferring more control over artistic direction, and control of music released Mantler and Bley created the WATT label distributed via Manfred Eicher’s ECM record label. Along the way Bey and Mantler created New Music Distribution Service as a vehicle for issuing and distributing music of the avant-garde in the 1970’s and on.

Something keeps drawing me back to Immanuel Wilkins and his sound and writing. His sound reminds me of both Paul Desmond and James Spaulding and his writing is within the tradition and also fresh.
Immanuel Wilkins “Omega” Blue Note cd
Starting the day off with some live Lockjaw–what a unique and spirited player!
Horace Parlan is on piano here and Alvin Queen is on drums. Drummer and jazz character Danny D’Imperio alerted me about 20 years ago to Alvin Queen and his drumming skills–and high taste level.
Eddie Lockjaw Davis “Jaw’s Blues” Enja/Solid Records Japan cd
Excellent album/sound quality; $20.
