Yep - its your site. But I will remind you that dark mode is still actually broken in the footer (and color of header) - its not just me with “OMG Change”
Fixed on iPhone iOS.
Will check iMac/Safari this evening….
Thanks.
I just disabled Dark Mode and adjusted screen brightness as a work around.
Home Button seems to work nicely.
All looking good on IPAD. I can now access PM’s (upper right) without flipping my screen to landscape, yippee.
Thanks and let me know.
Another suggestion if I may, @Paul - I can see from the page source that you are using both Google Analytics and Shopify. I still contend that you might be solving a problem that doesn’t exist by putting so many menus up in the header. But you should already have the data to verify or contradict yours or my assumptions. Google analytics will tell you how many people click on links on each page, and shopify takes that a step further by providing a heat map that shows were people’s mice or fingers go on a webpage. In my experience, the data often has little to nothing to do with the loudest visitors to your site (including me!)
I mean, you could take a stand and not track any of our uses - but thats a stand that most people don’t take
And you already have that data at your fingertips.
For those using adblockers, ##.__ns__pop2top.radio causes the highlighted section of any forum page to be unclickable unless you block the element. That part of the screen remains unclickable when scrolling down the page.
I opened up the forum in a private tab and disabled noscript + adblock just to see what was going on, the popups really took over. I know they’re trying to be helpful, but it’s too many and too large to the point where it detracts from user experience. It’s a slippery slope to mid 2000s web browsing
@dcm’s recommendations regarding the header is spot on.
The second one in green (lower) and the non-marked one above it scroll away to the heavens above.
I use dark mode and I can’t say that I’m a fan of the bold white field at the top of my screen.
Or at the bottom of threads…
After a long day at work looking at screens all day, when I get home and want to visit the forums in my dimly lit room, the stark white version of the site is completely unusable I have to squint to the point that my eye lids are almost completely closed to reduce the brightness.
Dark mode is much more comfortable to use.
I can assure you that the PSAudio web site is not causing all of those windows to pop up on your computer. I don’t use ad-blockers and have never seen anything like that on the PSA web site.
It would seem that some ad-ware software as crawled into your computer and has taken up residence causing all those popups to appear.
Fret not señor Wave, I am not running Windows XP. That image was given as an example of what we’re heading towards if the recent trend of increasing popups for email subscriptions popups, chat bots, etc continues.
I use Chrome on WIndows 11 and I visit the forum using a ‘GoogleApp’ which starts in a window seperate from the main Chrome instance. Here’s a screenshot since you made the changes.
A couple of observations.
- I now get a top-of-screen banner allowing me to exit the forum iframe. Clicking the ‘x’ effectively just does a ‘refresh’ (it closes and reopens the window)
- The ‘last visit’ indicator line appears to have had its dimensions reduced. That is, you only see the top have of the text although you see the red line.
BTW, thanks for the explanation about ‘dark mode’. I too prefer it and have it set in my main Chrome settings (actually, it’s set in my general WIndows 11 settings and Chrome follows the ‘system setting’). However, as you’ve explained, it’s a Discourse limitation.
Thanks, Mike. Seems like this is working for you?
It’s amazing to me, as well as informative, the many ways people use browsers and forums and all things internet related.
It’s easy for me to fall into the trap of thinking if it works for me there it should work for everyone. I too use Chrome (largest browser use in the world) but don’t add anything fancy. I prefer it mostly because it remembers all my “stuff” and makes it less of a pain to cruise through the internet.
I’ll keep tweaking the forums as best I can to make sure we have an easy to use, fun place to meet and work together in service of music and friendship. What we like to call the HiFi Family.
Thanks for the feedback!
I use Safari, Chrome and Brave (with full blockers enabled) and the site looks good with all three. I like the improvements, so thumbs up Paul.
