Dmn! I dropped a note to Al just now. Even if I upgrade to PSA600s in future, PZ3.10 will be sufficient for me since I have never had music over 90dbs in my house. That’s the only way that my amps will not end up in the dumpster.
I have done well falling under Al’s spell, ala Grimm MU2… Much appreciated.
But for now I will pass on the PowerZone and stick with my lowly Puritan setup. But, I do believe the hype. I would want to first get dedicated power to my room, but that is no easy upgrade in my house. I doubt I will ever know what Sakra level changes are like, I can’t wrap my head around those $$s… Good luck to the PZPGies
A friend just ordered a 3.1.
He promised that I can use it while they’re away for the month of December. I’m psyched.
I’m imagining my Christmas lights will be absolutely psychedelic plugged into it. And the bubble lights! Whoahhhhhhhhh
All at Ron’s home for Christmas!
It’s only a good Christmas present if you order one for yourself to get in January because you won’t want to be without it.
Since I’ll have it for most of a month, I’ll put it through it’s paces.
I live in a condo, so my wall power is quite variable and messy. So I’ll try it out of the wall, which is a dedicated 20A line, and out of the P20. It’s going to be fun.
Before I take the Powerzone back to its rightful place I will plug my P20 into it. I will take pictures of the readings before and after
I look forward to your findings.
I don’t have a dedicated 20A line, am I worthy to even be on Al’s list for washing one? Will M1200 be worthy to plug into PZ?
I’m not sure this is going to help, but the way I see it is the demand for the GPZ is high enough at the moment that should you find it is not a good fit you could flip it with he knowledge that it is unlikely you’d take a significant loss.
A second thought comes to mind, and that is where do you see your amplification within the next 2 - 3 years. Possibly an upgrade to Class D mono block amplification?
After getting a PZ, it’s almost mandatory to upgrade my amps later. Who knows? Maybe M1200 will benefit from it too.
Considering all the tweaking you tend to do the GPZ providing a sonic improvement is more or less a given. It comes down to value offered for the sonic improvement.
I like the notion of its simplicity compared to a Power Plant or various filters/conditioners. Yes the price causes a pause on my part. I’ll get over it.
Everything does benefit there is no doubt. The most notable would be the streamer! I noticed since the powerzone was put in service the Grimm MU1 sounds identical to the Ethos CD player. Yes the MU1 uses the Ethos Dac in my set up but before the PZ it was simple to hear the difference between a good CD being played over the companion rip off a NAS or streamed off Qobuz.
I played and compared the Muddy Waters Folk Singer dual layer SACD vs same disc on NAS vs Qobuz 192/24 I can’t hear a difference. Great news for those trying wanting to lose physical media!
Good to know! Looks like my plan of no-more-upgrade this year maybe in trouble.
I forgot to add I do have my subs and speakers connected to the PowerZone and i don’t think it made a noticeable difference. I will also add this disclaimer, the cheapest and lesser of the two 20 amp cables which is also brand new is connected to that side. I was hoping that a great power cable would not be necessary but it appears that is not the case. It does sound fantastic without a reference caliber PC but I’m hoping that a high end PC will take the powerzone up another level. I hope to borrow a 20a Dragon from @straightwire and will report.
I have never tried the Power Zone, but curious how my Shunyata Everest would compare?
One thing I really like on the Everest are the (4) CGS Grounding posts for any chassis grounding or signal grounding I want to use.
The Power Zone units appear to have only (1) grounding post to address grounding?
I would have to say they are different animals that do different things. One cleans power, one turns music into magic. I would love to hear them both to learn what the answer is. They both may be called Power Conditioners, but I think the Powerzone should be a new category. I hope you can hear one soon!
Gryphon steps away from the term power conditioner and has adopted the term power optimizer in their marketing scheme.
I can’t answer that. I believe @aangen and @minnesotafats did a comparison of a Shunyata conditioner vs the P20 and the P20 came out the winner. The PowerZone in the very limited time I’ve had it makes the source components sound extra ordinary. My Diablo 300 sounds like it has more power, grip, and control of the system. The separation and details that exist in the background now jump out. The accuracy of the instruments and vocals is second to none.
Rune Skov described it as a “power purifier”.
