The “Stock Power Cord” isn’t helping you any.
Agreed. I was kind of surprised that the powerzone came with a throw away power cable. The choice of power cable will affect the results you experience with powerzone. I’ve tried two cables. One cable made 3 different sources streaming, CD’s, and vinyl sound as they were equals. The second cable was not a subtle change the superior formats had further separation and music with physical media vinyl sounding the best, CD second are properly showcased with the better cable. Streaming placing third is not suffering. Very pleased and blessed to have the PZ in my system.
To be honest the burning in period can drive you nervous, up and down, up and down at least for the first 2 weeks.
Having said that the capability to improve things, I mean significant changes in sound for the better, was immediately apparent since the beginning in my system. And after 4 weeks the final benefits were much appreciated.
A different power cord should be considered maybe.
It would be the first unlucky case among our many other successful experiences.
Good luck!
Agreed on the power cord. I really need to get the Furutech on it as a starting point. For now I may swap the K-S cord onto the Essence, readjust to that, then put the DPS-4.1 onto the PZ. Or just bite the bullet and get a 20A IEC to put on one of my spare cords.
One thing I did was swap my speaker cables from the midrange to tweeter terminals of my Audiovector SR6. This is actually the recommended connection, but for the last few months I had compensated for some lack of midrange body by moving it to the mid terminal. With the PZ I’m able to go back to the tweeter to get some bite back.
Power cord is crucial on PZ, as well as on PSA generators.
The PZ needs playing time to break in. My system was on stand-by for two weeks after one week of break-in, and it still needed more than two weeks afterward to sound its best. So, I would say 300 hours of playing is needed, maybe more because I had other new things introduced towards the end.
My Muon Pro will be here before Thanksgiving, but not the streaming cable. I am happy
Yep the power cord is an essential element. Though the overall performance, benefit to say should take place right away. Sure after burn-in it will improve even more but when things are not considerably better at the beginning I wonder what might happen.
Great to hear about the Muon Pro filter. You will love it. When to receive the streaming cable?
It’s strange that they don’t have an estimate date of arrival on streaming cable yet. I was told there was a screw up on the order again (happened to my MU2 too). My other order of AQ Dragon jumper will ship out next week.
Ok, after another 24 hours, things are starting to cook, even with the crappo stock cord. Dynamics have come alive and musical cues are starting to pop. Throwing the DPS-4.1 on it further opens things up. There’s still a bit of “black crush” effect that I associate with most every power filter, but I’m fairly confident that will burn off with time and adjustment to the rest of the system. Progress!

Day 5. Slowly but surely improving. The center image continues to get more and more solid and focused, and I’m hearing little details in mixes and orchestrations that were previously indistinct. The initial sense of muting some of the recorded energy and excitement is burning off, leaving in its place a greater sense of ease and composure when things get dense and loud - brash pop tracks sound a lot less coarse, and in general there’s a feeling of reduced distortion. Not quite ready to do the comparison test of going back to my old power block - I’ll wait a few more weeks as per the advice here.
Please stop using the stock cable if you are writing about your experience here. Please. It is like reading a car review from someone who won’t put gas in the tank.
Don’t worry, I moved the Furutech to it
FWIW as mediocre as the stock cable was, the Kubala Sosna wasn’t great either. Fortunately the reliably excellent DPS-4.1 is working well.
I have a DPS 4.1 on my espresso machine.
Happy belated Thanksgiving everyone! PZ update short and sweet everything connected to the PZ sounds absolutely amazing! I’m very blessed and thankful! Thank you again @aangen and @1cdfoley!!!
Is this how you look after Thanksgiving (turning from 007 look)? The Thanksgiving dinner must be great!
It’s my cousin Eddie Christmas look.
The thread also seemed a little quiet
Hey guys, I am seriously considering a powerzone, probably around end of Jan I’ll be ready. I live in Athens, Greece. In the meantime, I’m making some power cord purchases and changes. I’ve got two zenwave pcr11 (EU) for sale (2m 20amp, 1.5m 15amp -let me know if interested) and wondering what will be a great match with the powerzone. From what I gather from this long thread, a slightly warmer yet open cable is a good bet. I demoed a zensati seraphim a few weeks ago and can’t get it out of my mind. I have a feeling it could be an excellent match with the PZ.
Welcome!
I don’t know about Zenwave PCR, but I am using their PSR 11 and love it. It has a warmer and open sound for sure, more than AQ Dragon HC.
