I listen almost exclusively to playlists that I’ve compiled myself and you’re right, there is a second or two silence between tracks. This never really was an issue for me. When playing a classical album the transition didn’t draw attention to itself but maybe that’s just me. I play files from external hard drives and don’t subscribe to any services and I’m not sure if that’s different to how you usually listen.
Thanks, so you have the same problem, you just don’t notice it too much. Many tracks where music ends before the track ends, don’t really suffer from non gapless play, but many classical tracks do or others where one track‘s music immediately follows another track‘s end or they blend into each other. There it’s very annoying to hear the gap. I just play from a NAS, so no online service, too.
I will try a last time today by phone to get support from PSA regarding the two issues (gapless and/or click reaction time) by the normal ways (I try since a month over the official ways where contact was established but not to those who could or would analyze, and the forum is also dead in this regard), before I try to contact Paul. I hope PSA will care for more than Roon. I feared this (similar problems with Jriver as in the beginning of the Bridge) 7 or so years ago already when the Bridge II successor was announced to be in the works and begged for someone testing Jriver or other uPnP devices thoroughly, but it seems it again didn’t happen…or the unit was released with known bugs of the Converse module or AirLens module in this regard. As I said…Roon indeed works flawlessly, but it’s a different topic in terms of technical interface. Maybe Convers offers support for their modules, worth a try.
I’ve had my AirLens for about three months and have been nothing but frustrated with it. Mostly operator error, but I’m stuck now. Initially JRiver recognized the AirLens but wouldn’t play anything. I got it to stream internet radio after some fiddling with the firewall. Then a month or so later I got a new router/gateway for my internet. Went back to square one, AirLens not seen by JRiver. Had short term memory loss and realized I had to play with the firewall again. Got internet radio back. The problem is, through all this I could not get locally stored files (CD, Hi-rez, DSD) to play. Today I double checked all the settings recommended above and still … nothing. What happens when I try to play is the display on JRemote (on an iPad) shows the counter running, stops at five seconds and restarts, starts again and stops at five seconds and that’s it. The same thing happens when I use the computer with JRiver installed. Does this consistently. In JRemote I changed the “Play to” to the iPad and it works (for CD, can’t check DSD this way) so the network is supporting playback. Just to make sure there wasn’t something specific to the AirLens I also turned off the firewalls (Defender and McAfee) with no change. Lastly, I checked the firmware, I know the Convers portion was ok, I updated that a while back and still shows that as current. The PS Audio part was on 2.4, oops! Updated that, but no change in playback. So what am I missing?
Not sure, but I don’t think it is the AL, per se.
I have had similar experiences with that kind of hang up (with Bridge and AirLens, as well as the Holo Red).
A network and JRMC reboot generally does the trick, IIRC.
Good Luck.
Did a reboot of the router/gateway, MC31 and JRemote, and the AirLens … no change. Sigh.
Oh, one other thing; I was able to play to an old iPad using JRemote and the iPad as the play to device outputting via USB. Haven’t tried DSD yet. This iPad works better than the AirLens. Double sigh …
Have you triple checked your JRMC setup for DLNA (?) access to the AL?
Is your JRMC JRemote app. up to date?
Did you reboot the computer hosting JRMC?
Did you do the Hokey Pokey and turn yourself around?
Oh dear … forgot that step.
I have a little rain dance I perform when the network gremlins attack.
Don’t know if it really helps, but I figure it doesn’t hurt.
Try hard powering down the whole network chain - all the kit - from computer to DAC.
Wait a solid 5 minutes and then power everything back up in order from computer to modem/router to DAC.
Sometimes it’s the only way to get all of the network hardware in the chain to make all of the handshakes they need to make to play nice across the network.
It has gone from bad to worse …. I tried using MConnect to play Qobuz and the first album I selected (new Neal Young) was playing according to the counter but it seemed half speed, but no sound so not sure. Tried another album (Ryuichi Sakamoto) and it seemed to play normal but still no sound. Tried going to the iPad and I had sound. Damn. Then looked at back of AirLens and the status light was blinking orange. Oh double damn. A restart did nothing so tried to do a factory reset, didn’t work just got the blinking orange light. Definitely had ethernet access, so might be a dead AirLens. Triple damn. I unplugged and will retry tomorrow. Many sighs.
Just a reminder of what I did while trying to get my AirLens updated when it wouldn’t connect: I snapped all the DIP switches to OFF, power cycled the unit and tried again. Got the same continued ORANGE status LED flashes. Snapped all the switches to ON and power cycled the unit. Viola! GREEN connection! YMMV
One other possibility. When I changed my Comcast/Xfinity modem/router to a newer unit the access key (JRiver>Tools>Options>Media Network>Access Key) also changed. I use an Android phone and Gizmo and had to change the Access Key in Gizmo before I could get JRiver to play properly with my Bridge. Don’t know if that applies to your set-up but it might be one other thing to check.
I think I am the end of what I can do. I tried 67Checker’s fix and no go. With respect to Joe’s suggestion, yes I am using the current access key. Mine changed when I got MC31 a short time ago so that is not the issue. I had updated the PS Audio firmware and it seemed ok, but this latest issue started shortly thereafter, maybe a bad firmware load? To that end I tried to do a factory reset (per the manual), the initial attempt did nothing. I then tried disconnecting the ethernet and I2S cables and I got it to work. Blinked red for a few seconds, then back to blinking orange. Did this three times, same result. I tried reloading the software using a USB stick, not sure it did anything. Per the upgrade instructions that come with the download (updating via USB is not covered in the manual as far as I can tell) there should be blinking of the front light. Never saw any front light blinking but the USB stick blinked for maybe three seconds. Not sure how quick an install this would be, but three seconds seems quick. Did this three times too, same result … a perpetual blinking orange light.
At this point I think a call to PS Audio is required, but of course Paul said yesterday that 3/4 of the employees were out sick. Phooey! The worst part about all this is I had foot surgery a couple of weeks ago and am supposed to stay off the foot. I was looking forward to just staying seated and doing all my music selection via iPad, but no …
Have you tried using a server other than JRiver? My thought is that if you could get it to work with other software, then the issue is the connection between the AirLens and JRiver; if you can’t get it to work with a different server, then the AirLens is almost certainly defective.
You would of course need another server installed on your computer. Here is one possibility: https://www.universalmediaserver.com/
I haven’t tried another server, don’t have one to try. Your suggestion is worth a try but read on. I used JRiver with a Bridge II for years, and while I did have occasional connection issues, it worked for me. I’m open to other servers at this point, may even try ROON if I can get the 60 day free trial. Problem right now is the AirLens is essentially dead. I’m hoping Paul reads this and takes pity on me. Unless I’m missing something I need a complete reboot of the firmware, as I said it just blinks orange. Rolling back the firmware might work but I’m not aware of a “rescue” version nor are there any older versions in the archive, 2.6.2 is it.
I did read through your posts above but didn’t quite pick up on the complexity of your firmware situation – sorry. I hope PSA can get you straightened out soon. They should be able to email you the version that shipped when the AirLens was released.
I got a copy of a previous firmware, 2.6.1, from PS Audio yesterday and that got me back up and running. I’m going to stick with this version until I get everything working properly.
Which brings me to … I still can’t play local files (CD rips in ALAC format and DSD in DFF format) to the AirLens. When the file is clicked it starts playing (without sound) and stops after about five seconds. Strangely, the local files which won’t play to the AirLens play fine to two different iPads that are running the JRemote app. To be clear the AirLens is found by JRiver and I can play internet radio to it, so I assume there are no firewall issues. Anyone have recommendations?
Well, I managed to solve my problem and I’m a bit embarrassed at how easy it was. For some reason Windows 11 thinks a computer on a home network should be set to “Public” (i.e., devices hidden from prying electrons). Next to this selection it Says “Recommended” and specifically says for Home Networks. Somewhere along the way in the last month or two I saw something related to this pop up and I selected the “safe” option. Not safe to my mental state it was. The correct option is a Private Network, which I chose last night and after a pop up for Media Center (JRiver) asking to access devices on the network (clicked Yes) it worked flawlessly. Computers will be the death of me …
I was able to get JRiver connected to the Airlens, but my JRemote app on my ipad doesn’t see the Airlens as an option to play the songs through it see in JRiver?
Appreciate suggestions on how to configure JRemote to work properly
Use the DLNA access key in Jriver to add your server. Searching in the Jriver forum will probably provide a complete instruction.
Easy . . . after you know what to do.
