Today I joined a coffee subscription service. I don’t know how these have alluded me in the past. It seems kinda cool. There’s a lot of selections and during the process there are several questions that help guide you to beans that fit my taste and brewing methods.
If the math holds up, the service may be ~$1300 less than retail bean purchases per year.
Coffee is probably a better use of this topic. How long could we possibly spend discussing the many ways Samsung, Harmon, and Roon Corp themselves will screw up Roon?
Here’s my one week later thoughts.
Roon Arc has to be what Samsung wants. Roon running in Cloud with metadata services. Roon will integrate Amazon, Apple, and Spotify along with Tidal and Qobuz. Samsung installs Roon Arc on phones and maybe cars. Users who don’t care about local owned content add their music service providers to Arc. They get to create Playlists, get fantastic metadata, and Roon Radio. Since you have a Samsung phone you get the service for free or maybe just for a year. With Apt-X or LDAC it will sound good to wireless headphones and in the car. Perhaps people will explore more music.
Heck - add a social media component to discuss music, and perhaps get notifications on when your bands are going to be local and a way to buy concert tickets.
They may integrate Amazon as they seem to be more inclined to opening up to outside sources lately but I doubt they will get much cooperation from Apple at all and with Spotify only the Connect function like everybody else.
@vkennedy61 I think this thread will see a lot more discussion once Samsung launches their Roon Ready espresso machine; the sole reason for the acquisition.
The software upgrade before the last improved my sound markedly clarity, openness as well as bass impact. It required the database to be rewritten. I would do a sound revisit, you might enjoy it more than previously, over your other available alternatives.
I kept reading SQ from Roon is not as good as from some others (this was not the only reason to keep me from subscribe to it).
But I am still interested in hearing your thoughts from SQ comparison between Sense and Roon. I tend to think my Lumin app sounds great too, but I have no idea how it compares to Roon. But it comes with the gear, and I like it enough without another subscription.
Since I installed the Innuos ZENith MK 3 I found Sense SQ superior, once I upgraded to the Statement it appeared to me even more evident. It was 1 year ago, Donald. I’d need to download the last version of Roon and make a few comparisons.
After a short trip to Paris and next week very busy at work, I’d like to order my notes to write a review about the new Verity Otello, whose set up (fine tuning) is still on the way. I’m evaluating the new CAD. Just ordered also the Ground Master City and I’d like to test different combination of it with PSM-156 and P20. The new Stealth ULTRA Ethernet cable should arrive tomorrow, too.
It seems that during Christmas Holidays lot of audiophile things will keep me busy, can’t wait!
You will have a nice and exciting Christmas! Congratulations on all the Christmas presents for yourself. I am looking forward to your reports
We will have our traditional prime rib dinner for relatives on Christmas, and the highlight will be showing off my latest improvement again. But I have a feeling it is no highlight for most of them.
We are traveling to Japen for two weeks in January, and I have a feeling my wife plan to do enough damage to my wallet to prevent my audio spending for the entire year.
I have tried a few other streaming platforms/services/sources, and I cannot find any evidence that roon sounds worse. But my system might not be as resolving as some!
