Holo Red impressions

The Eagle has landed.

God willing, and absent any porch piracy, I intend to get some listening time in tonight or tomorrow.

I really should spend a little more time with the new performance baseline the Swiss Digital Fuse Box has set before introducing the Holo Red into the system though.

If your still using the Bridge II you can still get the Red set up and plugged into an input on the Mk I with it powered up and just let it cook until your ready to test it out for sound.

Good idea….

My targeted base use case will be with the B II Ethernet card removed from the DS DAC.

If “streaming” sounds better that way, I have a brand new JK Richard’s power supply ready to slide into the Bridge slot and a second-hand external power supply I acquired on hot standby.

If it’s a sideways move, I am inclined to keep using B II as it sounds great, is super convenient and allows for streaming/unfolding Tidal MQA files.

If the Holo Red/external power supply combo is materially better, I will likely forego access to MQA files and cancel my Tidal subscription.

Thanks.

No need for external power supply with Red as it has it’s own transformer based power supply inside. Just takes a standard power cord.

Are you ready with the report yet?

I 100% agree. A built in bridge in a DAC is pretty much a must for me. Unless of course I eventually get a Vivaldi.

That was a reference to a new power board for the DS DAC, which will take up residence where the B II currently resides if the ‘Red beats the performance of the B II.

FYI.

Manual is on the Kitsune website and also earlier in the thread.

Hopefully getting the Red connected will go smoothly for you.
Some have trouble finding the IP address to access the configuration page.
I use Bubble, so as soon as the Red booted up and the LED went to white the IP was listed in Bubble.
After making operational selections, you need to re-boot, like HQPlayer.
I only use the Red as NAA with HQPlayer connecting via USB to the KTE MAY.
Eventually I do want to try I2S out to the May to see if there’s a difference.
I am not missing the Sig Rendu SE Optical, though I have to get it back in the loop to do a more thorough comparison since having just added a loom of Sablon USB/Ethernet cabling.

Very helpful…

Thank you.

O.K., folks. Apparently I am not smart enough to understand what the settings should be for the four switches on bottom of the kit in the Alt 2 (PSA DAC) mode.

I need someone to dumb it down for me.

Keep it simple please: Which of the four sliders should be next to their corresponding numbers and which should be on the opposite side of the switch panel?

Thanks in advance.

For the I2S leave switch 1 off and turn switch 2 on. The number side is off. The other two are for DSD settings.

Thanks, “D”. And what should I do with the DSD settings when using this with the PS DS DAC (MK I)?

Thanks again,

SEE

It appears for DSD via I2S you have to turn switch 3 on the fourth switch appears to apply to those upsampling via HQP and for your purpose won’t matter.

So the sequence is:

Off (1)
On (2)
On (3)
Off (4)

Correct…?

Yeah, that’s how I’m running it. Check your 2is input on the DS1. That had me foiled until sleep happened.

That appears to be correct. I will be using AES on mine is that as Aqua’s preferred input.
