You’ve got it right. Nothing to do in the DDC section.
Jack, if this is how you have yours set up, could you try and run the Bitperfect files? What I’m stumped by is that they fail when run over the Red this way via USB, but when I select ‘HOLO Audio UAC2.0 Gen2 - RED’ and go via I2S, the Bitperfect files pass with flying colors. Curious.
Agreed. I remember when I removed Bridge2, I heard very little improvement. It could be due to the 3M absorbent sheet tweak.
Tony
At the moment mine is set up via AES to the Aqua La Voce S3. My transformer modded Mk I is in the Family Room media system at the house in Greenville.
I have a Red connected to my DS MKI via i2S. When I toggle Roon between it and the Bridge II, the channels are reversed. Anyone have any thoughts or experienced this? It’s really hard to compare the two streamers since my room isn’t perfectly symmetrical.
I do not have this issue.
Check your switch settings on the bottom of the Red?
I am not at home so I can’t tell you what they are. The correct settings are noted way up above in this thread though.
Solved thank you. I knew it probably had something to do with the dip switches, but all the info I was finding was what each conductor in the cable was assigned for (nothing about the four switches until your post made me search the key word within this thread). It’s better!
I’m confused. How does one read this chart you provided into a pin configuration? 1Off, 2on, 3on, 4off would be simpler. No? Not sure I’ve set mine correctly but at least I have left and right channels corrected now.
To my ears (first impressions), the Bridge II is brighter, the Red is fuller in the mid’s.
The chart lists what position dip switches 1 and 2 need to be to match the pinout configuration of your DAC. 1 means ‘on’, 0 means ‘off’
For PSA DACs the pinout configuration to use is ALT2 and the corresponding dip switch positions to set on the Holo Red to match are 01 (pin 1 ‘off’, pin 2 'on)
EDIT: ALT2 dip switch configuration is 01 ( originally I wrote 10)
On some recordings, I believe the difference you are describing translates to duller or “muddier” to my ears thus far.
FWIW.
Regards
Thanks, man.
Hmm. I find nothing dull or muddy with the sound of the Holo Red, no matter what music I’ve played so far. Do you have an example of something so I could try it in my system?
I have been away from the system for a while so I don’t have any recent experiences on top of mind.
That said, queue/cue up a few favorites that have some snappy and dynamic percussive passages in the mid to lower frequencies and “see” what you hear comparing the two streamers.
Very interested in what you might have to report…
I don’t have an Air Lens yet, so I’d have to get my ultraRendu / Matrix out of mothballs. But I had that in place while the Red was settling in, and at that time noticed only that as the Red burned in, it was decidedly better than the older combo. No dullness noted.
I’m hearing a big difference.
Sample Rate conversion in Roon is defeated when using Red. So that might have something to with it.
??? Not in my system…
My comparison is b/t Holo Red > I2S > DS MK I and Ethernet > Bridge II > DS MK I.
FYI/FWIW.
OMG this thread is still going?! I started it just to give my impressions since people were asking
Didn’t know I could be so popular
