This jibes with what my cousin told me–his house in Superior was just outside the edge of the fire and is unharmed. But 30 houses in his neighborhood were consumed.
I live in south Boulder about two miles NW of where it started. Given the massive winds from the west, the fire went almost directly east and away from us. We lost cable/internet and then power today for a time, but, otherwise unscathed. I have to admit we had done some packing of go-bags….in case. I offered Darren a place but he was already at Paul’s. Last night we could see an eery glow and massive smoke cloud on our SW horizon. I’ve lived with the occasional 100 mph winds here in south Boulder, but, this was a whole different experience.
Finally got internet and power all back after lunch……and now back to some tunes!
Happy New Year everyone!
And now it’s snowing heavily!
The snow must be a relief.
Paul you are continually on our hearts…has there been any progress
in getting the one of three power phases up again?
Hopefully
Best wishes
Hoping for everyone’s safety, fingers crossed for your homes and buildings, and wishing a happy new year.
Talk about good with the bad…
It’s been a year! That’s certainly dynamics…
Hopefully the Bug isn’t going to do too much damage to you!
Our prayers are with everyone there in Boulder, we are very familiar with 100mph vertical downdrafts here in TX, even now temps going from 85f to 35f with hi winds here today. Stay safe friends, CO people are tough, god bless you.
I used to work for a Boulder based company, so I have many friends there. I’m so thankful that I’ve heard back from all of them that they are all ok.
No. Yesterday Terri and I spent hours strategically placing space heaters throughout the building. We had to go to multiple stores to even find them. The PS building is 30,000 square feet and trying to keep it above freezing with space heaters is a real challenge. The temperature has dropped to 8˚ this morning. I hope we don’t get any busted pipes.
I hope all goes well. It is difficult enough to try and keep a house warm enough.
Thank you! I can’t complain. Neither my son or I have had any major flu issues. Aches, but no fever, stomach or intestinal problems. Mostly like The Worst Cold Ever.
Paul…I’m envisioning a Colorado Cryo Sales Event! Sorry - seen too many car ads lately. Hope the heat gets sorted!
Paul thanks for sharing…wish there were something that could be done
to alleviate the situation…
Blessings Paul and Terri
Open all of the water faucets so both hot and cold water are running at a very small rate and the pipes wont freeze. The floor slab will have enough residual heat to keep the drains from freezing for a long time.
Glad everyone involved is safe.
Great idea Baldy…you have the career background to speak from!!
Yes. It’s an old trick to keep things from freezing up if you still have power but no heat (on a well system). With city water there are no pumps involved in the house so gravity is enough to do the trick even without power.
Best wishes to everyone from here in Scotland where wild fires are thankfully rare. I am sorry to hear that there have been a couple of fatalities now and hope everyone remains safe.
Paul, you may have thought of this already - turn on all the lights and anything else that uses electricity (safely) as they will give off some heat.
Likin’ that second photo and the SteamBoat Champagne SnowFalls
Also in S Boulder but haven’t had power (and so heat) since Thursday at 11am. Been getting into the 40s inside the house at night. Was promised they’d have power back today but as of 7pm, no luck. Fear another cold night tonight. Will be running the taps for sure.
Still, can’t really complain compared to what has happened just a few miles to the East.
Power on! Phew. 2F outside.
