A wonderful pic of the Hollywood Bowl. For the near decade I lived and worked in LA, I couldn’t wait for the summer concert season at the Bowl. Everything about the experience is unforgettable. Even with all the rich cultural institutions at my fingertips here in Chicago (including Ravina), I miss the Hollywood Bowl terribly. Thanks for sharing!
Ravinia can be be a lot of fun, but the crowds can be a bit overwhelming for me as these days I prefer a more intimate setting.
The deal for me at Ravinia is I only attend when I can get a good reserved seat ticket. Those familiar with the venue know the lawn can indeed be crowded, but for me the real problem is I want a clear, direct line of sight to the stage and the performers. At the Hollywood Bowl you have a direct sightline anywhere in the venue, albeit pretty distant in the sections at the edges of the Bowl.
We are in complete agreement, on both counts. The distance eliminates the immersive experience IME.
Yes. Lawn seats at Ravinia is like being at a picnic with a Bluetooth speaker. I’d rather go hang out at @straightwire house and listen to music if I’m in Highland Park!
My ticket prices are a lot lower too! Yeah, the Ravinia lawn experience can be a bit rough. However, I saw a classical concert there last night, in the pavilion, with a small, quiet crowd. It sounded pretty good. Being an open venue is different but can not be faulted due to room acoustics or amplification. Harry Person and other Absolute Sound advocates used to describe how systems or components got them closer, or not, to the symphony concert experience. Still my best reference.
Your listening room has a better chair than the lawn or pavilion, plus better sound.
Lucinda Williams post stroke. Seeing her live shows the power of well written lyrics. Moving
seeing an artist performing for both the audience and for therapy for herself. She needed assistance just walking on stage.
Post encore struggling physically to make a heart sign. Thankfully her voice is still at 95 percent.
She looks better up close.
Indeed she does.
Live on bourbon street and they are great. Brass-A-Holics. Irvin Mayfield had his name on the place at one time. Jail due to fraud charges hurt some people, clearly not everyone.
Dr John 2004 Glass Cactus at Gaylord Texan Resort.
Looks like fun!
Great concert pics of Dr. John. Very jealous.
What band is this @amsco15?
Thanks.
Smoking Time Jazz Band at Mahogany hall in the quarter.
