Yes and family was the big draw.
Apparently this house survived - what was it, Irma? - with no window damage, but just because of age we’re going to get them all replaced this coming year. DP40 will exceed the current code in this part of Florida.
From what I understand it is a smart move.
May even shave a few coins off your insurance premium.
Stay safe and be well, all Floridians are in my mind tonight.
@tony22 are power outages a certainty?
Throughout the impact region? Almost certainly. The eye is still about 20 hours away from where I am and two neighborhoods less than two miles away have reported power outages.
Stay safe at home. If the power is still on , turn on the music.
Not in this weather! Wind gusts already up to 35 MPH and climbing. Expected to hit 90 MPH in short order.
Good luck to you…
Hopefully everything goes well, the water could be more dangerous than the wind.
Tony, Chops, ErVikingo, TM, others in the area, please keep us posted when you can.

Hoping for the best for all!
All ok down here. Just fronds and some branches. We had 2 reported tornados in my area but away from heavily populated areas.
From my contacts with friends:
HOW ARE THE FRIENDS TO THE NORTH?
Well, the wife and I rode it out through a very noisy and windy night. Finally got to sleep at 4 a.m. The eye of the hurricane passed right over us. Sudden cessation of wind and rain for 15 minutes and then 105mph wind gusts for an hour. The house is fine, so are we, but the fence is buggered up beyond my desire to repair myself. Very glad we installed the most wind resistant shingles, doors, and windows we could buy years ago. They were finally put to a serious test last night and passed with flying colors. We’ve been through four hurricanes in the last few years but this one was the most intense for us. These hurricanes are so big now than even living in the middle of the state offers little amelioration of wind risks. According to the National Weather Service areas 40 miles inland had higher wind speeds than Tampa! Hope everyone else in the storm’s path made it through as best possible.
We made it through but have been without power since 4:30 AM. Fortunately this time around I decided to buy a gas powered generator sized to handle just the fridge and the microwave. Tree limbs down all around. Very minor capping and fascia damage to a tiny section of my roofline. I’m hoping it didn’t let any wind driven rain into the attic. Have to check that. Equipment and sound room okay.
Happy to hear you are ok. Hope damage to your home and community is minimal or nothing at all.
My brother in law works for an electrical contractor here in the Chicago area. He was staged in Ft Lauderdale last night. He is ready to start his 16hr work days to get the Floridians power back and running.
Tuesday he and a contingent of his crew drove from Chicago to Atlanta. Wednesday they drove from Atlanta to Ft Lauderdale only to find out that the person responsible for booking their hotel room did not book it, and he slept in his truck overnight. I can’t even imagine driving that distance in a work truck and having to sleep in your truck overnight and go to work 16 hours restoring electricity with minimal rest. God bless all the utility workers and first responders down there in Florida.
We owe a big thank-you to our linemen. When duty calls they work through it, typically bad weather and stressed out customers.
Hopefully the Floridians are kinder than Texans. Being greeted by a welcoming party carrying AK47s is just beyond belief.
Any estimates/updates as to when electricity will be restored for those of you disconnected?
After reporting the power outage at 4:30 this morning, about 20 minutes ago I got a status text from Duke Energy saying… that as yet can provide no status because they’re still doing an “overall assessment”. They hope to be able to provide a repair estimate by tomorrow afternoon.
