Inakustik - Reference LS-4004 AIR

Thank you so much Scott, sorry for my translation in effect here in Italy we refer to music from internet or files (to distinguish it from physical support like records or CDs) in the same way, using indifferently both words “streaming” and “liquida” (that I slavishly translated with “liquid” - that’s my mistake!). It seems I need to learn the correct idioms (and maybe improve my English so I apologize to whoever read my blunders) not only the correct components and cables to use.

Thank you again for your note, you help me to grow and please feel free to underline where I’m going wrong in future, I’m certainly not a touchy guy! We all need to learn everyday.

Back to topic, my main purpose is to build a system able to reproduce music from internet not from stored files, as first step in streaming world. I prefer to buy records and CDs for the same reason when I have discovered a new album or artist.

This is the reason why I was wondering if the last meter of (ethernet) cable really matters and which brand/type is commonly held to be superior by members. I read several posts about Inakustik and AQ ethernet cables on this forum but there are conflicting opinions about this argument compared to power cords or interconnects.

The Inakustik Excellenz cables are nice and not stupidly expensive. I first tried the cat7 on advice from a forum member who later confided he actually prefers the cat6. I have both and hear no difference at all between them. The Cat6 is less expensive.

By the way, Stealth makes Ethernet cables.

Not at all…your English is, and your communication skills are, clearly more than adequate.

Have fun exploring that “liquid” music option.

Such a great hobby in my opinion…

Ciao.

Where does one buy Inakustic cables in the US? If there’s a US dealer, they are being quite stealthy.

You don’t. You buy from Worldwidewholsales.com in Canada. They are a little odd as they require payment via PayPal friends and family but they totally rock as far as I am concerned. I would not hesitate to recommend them. I have been very pleased with my purchases from them. I met the main man behind the company at Axpona and it was a major treat. He is well worth getting to know.

They have a presence on USAM as well. He Bob, I think) is also one of the North American dealers for Aries Cerat. Out of my range, but man I would like one of their pieces. I spoke to him at length on a Robert Koda K-10 he had for sale used. I ended up going with the Concert Fidelity. He couldn’t say enough good things about the Aries Cerat preamp

Anyway, he raved about Inakustik cables

I do think you are on to something by utilizing fiber for your ethernet connection. I’d assume it is most beneficial on longer runs, say greater than 2 meters. Just a hunch.

Its not just the long runs, but the zero noise over fiber transmitted from the rest of the garbage on the network in your house. You can buy two media converters and have ethernet flipped to fiber and then back and use that one run with good quality cable. Now you have the “air gap”. Sonore has been doing this a while. One of the things that people are looking forward to in the Air lens coming up. Done internally I believe.

Understood, and completely agree. My thought was longer runs would benefit most, but introducing the air gap is the key no matter the distance. Some day I’d like to give it a try.

You are correct length fiber has the advantage. Just be very careful on bends. it can break. My network team at work gave me a 50’ run (we have boxes of spare runs) and I moved the media converter closer to the switch. just to clean up space behind rack and I used the only ethernet there for the P20. And those fiber lines are nice and thin, they fit snug and hidden under my baseboard trim above the carpet.

That’s more or less my approach (at least for one segment in my system). The WW Ethernet cable “takes it home” to the DAC.

I was hoping the AL would have either a fixed or SPF connection so we could choose between fiber or RJ45.

Will it need it with the air gap?

That’s a good question. I would speculate that it would not be necessary for a fiber connection.

You can get a few things from smallgreencomputer.com – I picked up the USB cable from them and haven’t really considered trying much else since.

I think with fiber isolation the ethernet cable matters less. But I never went any of those routes and stuck with copper. I do stream roon over wifi to another system not main. It sounds good when it isn’t dropping out and stuttering. Hang that up if step kids are home streaming whatever mindless nonsense off tiktok or other sites. I have no patience to hear music with drop outs.

With some of the new tunes the kids are into, I think there’s purposeful dropouts! :innocent:

FWIW, there’s room for improvement with your streaming/network.

My files and Roon Core are connected to my Hi-Fi kit via Wi-Fi to a router which feeds the Stereo/HT system with multiple Ethernet-connected devices.

The system is rock solid in terms of stability for audio no matter how many are leeching off of the network. Can’t remember the last time I had a drop out…

Maybe I don’t have as many leeches in my house though.

I agree with you. Unless you are trying to stream DSD 256 and above, there should be no dropouts.

On Android there’s an app called WiFi Analyzer that may help you understand what your signal strength looks like.

You may be running on 2.4Ghz. Switching to 5Ghz may help as well.

Music only starts and stops on wifi when others are her using my wifi network. If I am streaming wired Ethernet their movies drop. So my wired music priority over the tiktok and video games. It is just fine in my book as My needs are being met.
