We adapt or we sit and rot. (You rest, you rust)
I’m going to give in and try an e-bike.
btw, Seven frames are works of art; gorgeous welds.

Thanks for liking my Seven. Btw it was ‘welded’ in 1994; with only one top and head tube replacement in 2012, due to my car rack (and my driving, of course, into a garage without stopping, ugh). Fate later reciprocated, blessing me with a full knee replacement. The Seven is happy. So am I, the last I checked. :innocent:

Nice bikes, Ron, Chas, and Cardi (who seems to be killing it). I used to average a 1000 easy miles a year and now half that. I don’t have a funky heart and stay in reasonable condition so I have no excuse. A have a Kestrel, the original full carbon.
Not the Beatty that Seven is.

I loved the Red Kestrels of the 1980s. They were magnificent rides.

Isn’t amazing that one pair of high end cables can cost more than a tricked out Pinarello! If I had to choose between the two, I would want both! :relaxed: :older_adult:

The original Kestrels were great, original designs.

Just reached my 1000km target of Great Cycle Challenge Australia charity riding for October and there are still a few days spare but the weather will turn bad for the rest of the week. Was hoping for a 100km ride today to finish off the challenge before the bad weather but forgot to pack my water bottles and broke the sunnies at the 30km so ended up cutting the day short at 73km.

About half of the miles I’ve clocked with a Trek FX3 on the various tracks and trails (mostly paved, not real trails) and half on the roads with a brand new Focus Izalco Max - that’s a 8.8 model in 61cm but with a white frame, DT Swiss wheels and a Bontrager Verse Elite seat (not in the photo). Was really shopping for a Bianchi but ended up with this one and am very happy. I see a good number of Bianchis on the road but not sure which exact models as I fly past them so fast

Is it true that there is no longer Focus representation in the USA?

I was chatting yesterday with a bunch of guys in their 80’s who still ride 3-4 times a week. Each one had an e-bike. Why not, you still have to pedal but with a bit of assistance the steep hills become doable.

My brother in law has an e-bike. Without it he could not ride outside his driveway, in fact, not even back up the driveway to his house. With the e-bike he can ride for an hour almost anywhere. He is happy.

Hello Chas,

Love your Seven! I have an Axiom XL custom with over 10000 miles on it. It is my third Seven with one of them an Axiom XL Tandem which I sold after an accident in 2014 that shattered my wife’s shoulder and hip. On July 24 this year, I was on a ride and making a U-turn to go back the way I came from on a country road. In the middle of the turn, I hit a small rock that I did not see. It dropped me hard on my left hip. I got a total hip replacement out of that. I am now riding my Seven on smart trainer mounted on a Saris motion table. I started 3 weeks after surgery and am still enjoying it. At 71, I may never ride the rode again. Hopefully, I won’t crash on the trainer, LOL! Take care and be well.

Bob,

Thanks for you nice reply. As you know Seven frames can easily get 30k, even 100k miles. I have a pair of King Ti cages, bought in 1995 and still have day one spring in them. They will last forever. I kept the 10sp DA because I like the chrome look.

First question about that 2014 accident, has your wife started talking to you yet? :innocent:

I crashed on a few U turns but always made sure to land holding my bike up so it wouldn’t get the tiniest scratch. :grinning:

The Axiom model was the first on the road, circa 1992. That experience hooked me. I don’t think their cirrus ultra butted frame was available then; but at 220lbs, I was to heavy for that frame.

Funny, I did fall off the bike while on a trainer, right after my knee replacement surgery (dam those cheap Nasbar products).

One nice thing about trainers, I can position mine right in front of my speakers.

Chas

You can get the best (worst?) of both worlds.

@Jussipekka flies by me, but that’s okay. I love my Bianchi.

For that one, I’ll slow down to take a look. That is one awesome looking machine.

Bianchi bikes, a child hood dream of mine.

Where are the batteries?
:slightly_smiling_face:

Battery type = pedal pushers…

Another titanium fan. After riding a '97 Litespeed Tuscany for ~50k miles over the years I switched primarily to a titanium hard tail 27.5" plus. Love it. It’s so much more fun to ride and not have to be so super sharp to avoid silly drops. 2.8" up front and 2.3" in the back, rides nice. Dropper post is so worth the extra 1.5lbs.

I also have a full suspension electric motorbike. Cruises at 40MPH then ! runs out of gear, not power. It has so much power that I detuned it because I feared for the rear triangle life.

The hardtail spends lots of time on the trainer these days too.

My ride, sorry just couldn’t help myself.

You’ve taken great care of it!
