Two is plenty but 6 would be divine!
i may be incorrect about this, but I seem to recall that John Hunter said to use either 2 or 6 but not 4. Don’t hold me to that BTW
In all seriousness, it depends on what your objective is.
For stereo (sans bass sickouts and peaks), stacked subs are all the rage.
If one is trying to address peaks and valleys at the lower frequencies, 3 subs might be just the ticket depending on the room.
All I know is it is axiomatic 'round these parts that:
- more is better;
- bigger is better; and
- there is no such thing as overkill.
