I too think they’ll change the drive. I suspect the drive is out of balance, especially if the problem occurs more towards the end (outside) of the disc. I have a couple of relatively expensive Buffalo drives that run at 48 times standard speed and some CDs that are over 45 minutes or so, i.e. getting towards being full, will fail to read correctly so can’t be ripped (I think the drive buffers a lot of data so there’s no way of correcting read errors (I know what I mean!)).
Too funny. I understand
I’ve found the PST quite finicky. Had to send it back once already. It occasionally does weird but relatively benign things for which I have to power cycle it.
My suspicion is that the firmware is not quite up to the state of the art hardware.
Thanks. If my issue continues I will have to send it back. They are great about fixing and turning things around quickly.

.
Have you tried running an optical drive cleaner disc?
Have not. what do you recommend?
thanks
.
I’ve used the following on my PWT when I encountered discs that skipped and were flaky:
Maxell CD lens cleaner CD 340
Amazon has it for cheap money.
Thanks so much. Just ordered one. Should be interesting.

Positive waves! Glad to help, Kent.

BTW, except for your speakers, your and my systems are almost identical.
What speakers do you have? And I am a small bit of a heretic in that the preamp is a Pass and not PS. I would not be without a PP of some kind. The P20 is just amazing.
And I am only an hour from Chapel Hill
That is so interesting. you are right. other than the speakers we are running similar systems. The BHK preamp was a good unit but had more of a “sound” to it. the Pass seemed a bit more uncolored. is that a sub of some kind in the middle?
I love the pass pre amp I must say. It seems to give some warmth. The speaker in the middle is for 5-ch music, it’s disconnected at present.
I have two REL subs. One of them is hiding behind the left amp. (Yes I know that’s not the ideal place.)
The last PST firmware update was released in May. My impression at the time was another update would be coming, but wasn’t a high priority since PS felt comfortable with that release. I know a number of us have had (mostly) minor issues since then, so fingers crossed something will come along soon. I would suspect the DS Mk II was monopolizing the programmers so perhaps that will now change. One can dream!
From what I can tell there is allot more work that needs to be done to the Directstream mk 2 to get it to operate up to its full potention. I am talking about the UI firmare not the fpga. The PST will stay on the back burner for a while longer I am sure!
i have been fortunate in that mine has operated perfectly. however i really do not use it for much more than CD playback and optical in from the TV.
I too have two REL subs. the 812’s are really fine and i doubt i will ever need (famous last words) to update them
No need to update just ad 4 more!
DANGEROUS: my wife would kill me
