I agree with @1cdfoley - it would be really cool to know what changes there are compared to the 700.
In other-than-Class-A topologies, its about the bottom watts ; )
I’ve never been completely satisfied with other topologies in my five decades pursuing sound. It’s about the first watt, class A for me. And tubes both for preampfification and amplification. I’ll leave other types for others.
Right. Bottom watts/first watts, however you’d like to say it. Some other topologies have x amount of “Class A” performance in the first watt(s). As has been pointed out, they aren’t necessarily the same sonically as x amount of Class A watts from a purely class A device. They also typically are not the same in terms of power consumption, heat and cost. Tradeoffs. No free lunch.
I never said there weren’t tradeoffs, that other topologies don’t run in Class A in some stages, etc. Or that I have or have wanted a free lunch. I’ve tried and lived with A, A/B, D, several hybrids, chip amps. . . . I’ve found my delight in what I have and I made an informed choice. Others have made different choices and have different preferences. That’s cool.
I love PS Audio’s power and source components, but am not interested in their amplification products, I’m fully loaded there.
“I’ve found my delight in what I have”
In that short phrase lies a very deep truth. When you are lucky enough in this crazy world to find delight in something, be it Audio, Food, a Partner, it is about as good a thing as there is. Makes no difference that anyone else may not find it in that same thing, it’s yours to revel in while you have it.
I did not mean to suggest that you had said anything along those lines.
I confess sometimes I’m not entirely sure of everything you may or may not mean or infer with your statements. Thanks.
Put a Stellar P3 or Phono Pre below your BHK pre and it protrudes with head and shoulder again, after exchanging the flanks with the M1200.
You’re not alone. I think I’m simply having a “conversation”/adding my two cents, and a lot of folks seem to feel I’m taking them to task. Poor communication on my part, I guess. If we were sitting in the same room, there would be no confusion.
Probably not. But then I’d have to listen to a lot of singer songwriter stuff. Yuck!
I think part of the confusion may be in “replying to” someone–seems as if you’re addressing their post directly rather than adding to a conversation, and in so doing it sometimes seems to me that you are inferring I should add this or that. . . . Anyway, thanks for the clarification.
Ironically, this is just what my brother’s wife says if he puts some SSS on the stereo. (without the wink)
I’m just teasing. I just don’t listen to that stuff much at all and can see that you do, and know you are one. For me the shift to California singer songwriters and the country rock scene in the second half of the 'seventies was a big reason I turned off the radio and explored other musical paths that led to the immersion in jazz that has been my predominant musical pursuit since moving to Texas from Ohio in '80. I played drums in support of one singer-songwriter a few years then but tickled her by putting a 4/4 pulse to her stuff, and I played in one band that was a “science fiction blues band” that allowed me to do some interesting drumming.
Bob Dylan remains the most interesting singer/songwriter to me and one I still follow.
Maybe I just don’t have enough watts! LOL
Well…it IS ALL ABOUT THE WATTS, bruh You’ll be happy to know that I listen primarily to jazz. Just haven’t learned to play it
Happy to know that. The good thing is that almost anything can be called (correctly or not) “jazz” these days. . . so play what you can and see if you get away with calling it jazz!
@lonson and @badbeef I would say I’m on the other end of the ENOUGH WATTS scale with (2) Sanders Magtech amps capable of delivering 900W/channel into 4 ohms each! Just about enough to ensure my electrostatic panels and TL woofers work without any strain. They should be operating in class A up to a few watts so for normal listening levels they are very clean. Then when needed there’s little chance of any clipping going on when things get more “dynamic”.
That’s a lot of power!
I agree to Bob Dylan as one of extremely few I listen to…John Martyn also if he can be called SS
Coincidentally practicing a fave Crap Singer Songwriter Tune today ; ) Prolly not the same take on the iPhone as on the audio, but close-ish, from the same takes today.
I love that guy’s playing, well done.
On a humorist note, I will have to remember to keep my daughter away from him.
