Chas - unless she is 60-something…no worries
Sounds great. Good job channeling Mr. Knopfler.
And now I understand your handle on this site.
More please…sounds great!
I wonder if the M1200 will be extremely popular with Magnepan owners?
That is a dang good question.
Which brings up the Watts/Speaker Thing.
That is an over simplification, but it will be cool to see what various speaker owners experience. This is a new deal in some ways.
Focals have very low impedance too. They seem to need some headroom.
Well, the M1200 can drive anything and would be ana amazing match for low efficiency speakers like Magnepan’s.
@aiki14, knowing how many watts you use at normal listening level is an invaluable piece of information. If you have a multimeter then set if to AC Volts and, whilst listening to a typical musical passage at your normal level, just put the meter leads across the speaker terminals briefly and note the voltage (you only need one place of decimals). Then multiply that by itself and divide by your speaker nominal impedance. The result is the number of watts being used per channel. You can then multiply that by 100 (200 if you are a purist) and that is the power of the amp you need to avoid any risk of clipping transients.
Can you buy just one?
Interesting, looks like if my meter can be believed I am a bit more than 3W at my listening chair volume. I guess the 350W I have per channel is likely to be adequate. I also guess I am not a purist. I’m not sure I’m whatever the other side of purist is either.
You are a purist if you follow the broadcasting standards which state average signal level should be -23dBFS; which gives you the 200 multiplier. If you follow the chrisj1948 approach, since he has never measured a music sound peak more than 19dB over the average level, then the multiplier is near as dammit 100. I believe this makes you a pragmatist.
I guess the Stellar amps could get a hot hint for Maggies, as they could match (with each Maggie range) the bargain price point, power demand and offer probably better SQ than other D amps.
If you initiate a cooperation somehow (if only with press articles), they could benefit from PSA‘s social media competence and PSA from Maggies speaker customer base (in case it’s as „large“ as I assume).
How long can the BHK300’s continue to drive a 2Ω load without giving out, or, strain?
How do they sound compared to the BHK 300?
BHK300’s, 12 months in system with Focal Sopra No. 2’s, 1,100 plus hours listening, never came close to showing any strain on any recording, including SACD’s of Saint-Saëns Organ Symphony, all Mahler Symphonies and many more.
Yup. No problem. You may have to call us though.
Paul, do the various voltage options (factory set) mean, that a unit bought in the US can now also be used in Europe or Japan and doesn’t need a transformer switch by distributors?
Is this a fact for all Class D products (only)?
Did you test a meaningful use of the Stellar 1200 as pure bass amp in biwiring with e.g. a BHK? Is it better in bass or is it preferable to use only one kind of amp?
I was looking at the spec of the M1200 and the picture of the rear. It looks as though the binding posts are for bare wire or spades and not banana plugs - that makes easy comparison with existing speakers an unnecessary challenge. Why not provide the flexibility that Crown amps provide, i.e. everything from speakon, spade or banana?.
Looking at the photo of the M1200 I can see holes on the face of the binding posts - which I assume will be appropriately sized to accept banana plugs.?
Looking at the photo of the M1200 I can see the exact same binding posts as in my M700, which accept banana plugs
