Was it a special offer, or do you have the clock generator and mono DAC’s in order already?
Shunyata had 20% off promotion which was too good to refuse. I have the Esoteric master clock generator already. Haven’t ordered the Grandioso D1X DAC’s yet.
The clock cables are a hot ticket item. 2+ month wait between order and delivery.
I see more and more external clock devices. Now I assume you have already a pretty good, not to say über high end SACD transport and separate DAC. What improvement did you notice when you utilized the external clock?
Actually my SACD transport is as über high end as they come (it was the replacement for my DMP). Esoteric Grandioso P1. And I can’t answer the question because I’ve never used it without the external master clock. It’s not something I’ve ever felt inclined to experiment with. Yes, there are more external clock devices emerging onto the market. There is even a network switch now which is marketed as audiophile quality with an optional 10 MHz clock input module.
Thanks Brodric. That’s a petty, I was looking at the AURALiC G2 series where the clock generator is more expensive than the streamer or DAC, and was wondering if it’s worth to add that extra box (and cables) to already highly regarded players / DACs.
Technically I get it, if everything runs of one reference clock, theoretically jitter is eliminated, but than I think about the period times of those pulses and the cable lengths and contact impedances and can’t help myself thinking if the medicine just doesn’t make it worse.
The Auralic G2 series of components don’t need external clocks to perform at a high level. They offer it as an option to those who think sound quality is based on how much money you spend.
Hi Jack thank you for your opinion, so have you heard them with and without external clocking device?
The Esoteric series of components don’t need external clocks to perform at a high level. They offer it as an upgrade option because the technical excellence of the upgraded digital audio timing system is fundamental to the sound quality achieved.
When prospective master clock generator buyers ask me about clocking their lower end Esoteric digital sources I suggest their money is better spent on not buying the clock + cables and instead buy the higher grade Esoteric digital sources. Once you’re in the realm on the top-spec electronics then think about adding a clock.
Thanks, enjoy your system when your back home. Safe travels.
I went to Adelphi in Singapore today to cruise around the HiFi stores, particularly looking for the new Shunyata power conditioners. Everything was closed for the Chinese New Year. I found the Shunyata, on display in the shop front window. In sight, but out of touch. Just my bad luck.
My experience in Singapore was that it wasn’t less expensive then in Europe. No sweat than.
I did like the lake and harbor area and the colorful market places with fruit and spices.
A great place to be, such a conglomeration of cultures.
JA review of Magico M2 in Stereophile out now.
That and Pass Labs amps. It’s the annual “stuff you probably can’t afford” issue. Lol.
Where are the pins to trigger those pods?
You had pins on the pods for your M3’s didn’t you?
That’s right. Pin shown here:

Which I presume means that the bottom cup (probably hardened and polished before and after) is detached from the top part that is fitted to the 1” 3 leg bottom plate.
So once you pulled the pins and allow the speakers to rest on the 3M absorber pads, how do you proceed when you want to move the speakers. Is it easy to get the pins back in?
Like with hand granades, those pins seem to have such a definite effect.
The pins need to be inserted again before you can move the speaker. I haven’t tried to do that yet.
Ride home from the airport in the Audi A8 taxi. Nice.
The tunes are playing again. Nice.
Self imposed cheesecake free zone. Only until the next cruise.
2.5kg additional blubber. Could have been worse.
PS Audio Duet tripped out again, shutting down my whole CCTV system for 2 weeks.
I do like the aesthetic of this speaker tri-stand (which is a $10k-ish upgrade option). The outriggers are milled 1 inch aluminium plate, and the 3 pod thingies are a patented constrained layer damping conglomeration of stainless steel, 6 mm copper plate, aluminium, and a 3M damping compound.
