Modding DirectStream DAC MKII

They are on top lid still. I want to be through a couple of more firmware’s before doing unit surgery.

Also I just ordered 1 sheet of the 3M product that Vmax recommended.

Roger that. I am going to go back to MkIl/173 to hear that again but did not keep the file and I see that is not on the website.

Fantastic! Thanks so much!

In my system Dragon Source improves PST greatly too, but it made less difference on BHK Pre. I agree amps are not as reactive to great power cords, and it could be the Dragon HC on generator benefits the amps more already (guessing).

Among my dental cost, college cost, and a vacation at the end of month (even retiree needs one), my audio upgrades will take a back seat. Like you, I just need one or two more Dragons in the house among other gear in my dream list.

My front two pieces are at the same location but just a bit smaller (7x3 and 4x1), I have a bigger piece in the back, and I will measure to make sure it is close to where you have it. I have a few small ones left and I will add them up there to see if there is further improvement. I like mine better than a couple of days ago for sure!

Welcome to the audio version of Game of Thrones.
We just need a couple more Dragons to make our House reign supreme.

I am going to try M-1 Fuse burned in before any further optimization on sizes.

When I go internal i will cover FPGAs directly, right now I am guessing location and need lots of material to react through the wood and sheet metal with sheer mass of material.

This lid stuff I can live with as a quck and dirty fix to save my ears.

I will be interested iwhat additional pieces you add do

I am in my office streaming system three rooms away. The DSOTM the great big gig in the sky. All of Peter Gabriel’s sound effects, recorded talking voice special effects additions heard as clear as in the room listening. This DAC is amazing with the absorber.

Scantily clad princesses might help too.

Covering FOGAs makes sense and should give the best result. I will wait until you confirm it is the way to go. Right now, I am happy with the lid covering. It saves a lot of time and trouble for sure.

I just increased the 1x4 in the back to 21/4x4 covering the flat tape area, I like the thinner one better. The thicker one makes the mid a bit pronounced, but some may like it more.

I did notice something my 2 inch by 4.5 inch strip did not lay flat since it has memory of round tuning ring shape formed into it. If I weight it down it starts getting sharp. If I take of the weight it regains its ease. Therefore that piece may need to be smaller on either end or slide a pencil under the middle to open up the gap. This absorber is powerful in its effect by being closer

Yeah good point I thought mine was 21/4 bot measured 3.

@dchang05 it maybe the M-1 stronger mid talking to you. I eill take that observation into account when my M-1 fuse arrives.

The fuse changes made quite a difference. Once your M-1 is done break-in. You may like a different layout better. It may be the time for the interior work! I am looking forward to your open surgery with absorbent on MK2!

Sorry. I have the MK I, and I was wondering about your placement preferences on the original DS DAC.

SEE

I had the Dsjr.

10-4.

Please let us know PSAs response to these issues, I’m sure others might be having them as well.

I can understand how strategic placement of emf absorbers inside the chassis could be beneficial. I cannot understand how placing these absorbers on the outside of a metal cover that is grounded and has a thick panel on top of that metal could do anything to affect the performance.
