New high end PS DAC in the works

I take it, that was the answer to the MSRP question? Difficult keeping track of which posts are in response to what posts.

I can’t say yes because we haven’t yet worked any details like that out but it sure would be great to do it. Finally. I’ll add that to our agenda to see what we can pull off. It’s hard to get the “world” to agree with anything.

So the TSS - if it comes about - will definitely be sold via the dealer network, or only on limited distribution via the PS Audio HQ sales channel?

Thanks! Yes, we are excited about it as well. It’s amazing how many iterations, models, and view go into small decisions like the slight angle on the front panel transitions to the glass. We labored over that through SLAs, drawings, and committee meetings for weeks. Then, once we agreed, it has to go to our metal fabricators to see if they can do it and how and how much. It’s a tedious process and one we never used to go through much, “back in the day”.

IMO, something like this should be direct only. Heck, in fact, I’d make all products direct only!

Prices would be lower.

Bingo!

$20,000+ … yikes!

Did you consider the possibility of reflections from overhead lighting vs. the angle of the glass? I’m not sure how you would determine that with all the potential variables, but it would be a shame to have the display obscured by a reflection from an overhead light.

My response, as it often is, was half-joking. I would not deprive those with the means of flying their Benjamin Freak Flag High (or whatever your large-denomination currency is nicknamed).

Clearly, the Tedshirts (which are seriously a great idea, because they are not serious and cool at the same time) should be the province of those who pay the price of Entry.

The T-shirts, for the masses, should not be made of 600-thread-count Egyptian Cotton. Domestic and Organically-sourced, non-exploited-worker-picked, yeah (for which I would pay extra). It should sport a cruder version of the TSS shirt Palm Tree Pattern, so there is no mistaking who spent what. Sort of a PS Audio Deadhead T.

With regard to not knowing what is in response to what - this is what Elk and I were going on about just yesterday, as I recall. Though I realized in retrospect that I wrote of “clicking the reply button” without differentiating between clicking that identically-named Button on the Response your are Responding to, and the Button at the Bottom of the thread.

My issue is that, though we get the added clue of the little curved arrow in the upper right on the post, (in this case, pointed at You, Brodric) and the fact that only you get an email about it - the response shows up the same as any other in the queue based on the time it was posted.

How about that TSS DAC concept?!? I mean, OMFG!!!

Sign me up!

As for the concept, it’s different to what others are doing. The hi-end DAC flavor of the month seems to be 2 or 3 boxes, being the DAC with outboard power supply/s, or outboard clocks. The TSS is digital + analog boxes, which I think is a new design concept. SFP is starting to get some product penetration, but that is in connecting the DAC to other things rather than connecting itself to itself.

I won’t be an early adopter buyer, but I might buy it once it has a bit of in-field maturity.

Is that another way of saying I will wait to pick one up used at substantial savings over new?:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

No. It is saying I will have sufficient faith in the robustness of the product to buy it once it has found wider distribution with end-users and found to be so. I already have faith that it has the required sonic pedigree, but that alone is not enough at this price point to buy it.

I worked for around 25 years in future vehicle marketing research for Ford, Jaguar, Mazda, Volvo, Bentley, etc.

One of the things that stuck with me (at least in the US) was that there were “Style Progressives” - mostly on the West Coast (where 30% of the automobiles sold in the US were sold) who would be looking at a prototype of a design that was 3 years from production, and they would be asking, “Can I buy that now and drive it home?” - whereas on the East Coast of the US, the attitude was more along the lines of, “I will wait for a few neighbors to buy that new model/design, and after a few years will ask them what their opinon is. Then I will think about buying it. “

I am interested in the TSS DAC and I have faith in Ted and PS Audio to deliver an outstanding product. I also wonder how good one’s hearing, listening room and upstream equipment must be in order to discern a meaningful difference between an overachieving $6K DAC like the DS and a $20K DAC? If there is a sonic resolution bottleneck anywhere upstream from the DAC, I wonder how much of the $20K DAC’s improved resolution would reach the listener’s brain as meaningfully improved sound quality? In other words, at what point does the law of diminishing returns trump the fear of missing out (FOMO)?

The thing is, I’m a West coast guy. Perhaps your observations see a reversal south of the equator.

No doubt. I mean, Cripes, our water goes down the loo the opposite way, so it only makes sense
