Next DSD firmware update in 2020 or 2021?

I once came across a moose whilst canoeing in Algonquin in Canada. I’ve never met an elk. Thanks to this thread I’ve become slightly more interested in Colorado.

p.s. I wasn’t trying to help.

We sensed this.

You’re welcome. Any time.

No crazy politicians in London-Town, thankfully

Just in case I missed it in this thread. Was any info shared in terms of progress of a next DSD firmware release?

I’m working on it. Mostly internal stuff that wouldn’t make sense to anyone else at this point.

Thanks,Ted

That’s the most polite way of saying “It’s on a need to know basis and you clowns don’t need to know” that I ever heard! I’m stealing this to use on my customers

It also has the benefit of being true

Any idea on time frame?

Not at the moment.

I’d say a much better chance in 2021 than 2020! I’ll be patient Ted I know it’s worth the wait!

I suggest closing out this topic and starting a new one "Next DSD firmware update in 2021 or 2022? This way if you get it in 2021 people will be happy.

I was just having some fun. It’s a great topic none the less and everyone is eager for a performance update/upgrade!

Well, I’m still confident it will be 2020. …Some say I always live in the past.

With all the excitement of the Directstream DAC MK II seems like the excitement for the new firmware update has subsided! I’m still excited about the next firmware release and hopefully it will be out soon!

I can safely say that quadrate input via I2S is working in the FPGA and as I hoped that also gives a sound quality improvement to the release overall. There are also some more minor changes that contribute positively to the sound quality. Don’t ask for details yet, the work on the FPGA part of the release may not be done, so …

Does this mean there’s a new Quadrate internal processing from the new firmware in the Mk I, too, that also helps if the input is of lower DSD or PCM rates? I think I didn’t follow the news tightly enough.

For a few releases the DS (and DS Jr.) have used quadrate processing in the upsampler and sigma delta modulator.

The new software release for the DS (and DS Jr.) will support quadrate as an input, but I2S is the only input that supports that bandwidth. In principle USB supports quadrate, but that would require new drivers for the PC, MAC, transport, streamer, etc.

Ok, so something to use with Matrix coming from USB and with those few quadrate albums. Still nice.
