[So can I.]
Will the DS mkll use the same DAC programming as the current DS? Iâve assumed DS and DSJr. share the same DAC programming, no? Will new mountaintops be shared by mkl and ll, or after the mkll is realeased, will the party be over for mkl firmware upgrades?
It has already been confirmed the next mkI release will be the last
YAAAAAS!!
They will no longer share programming and yes, after the release next month of the new mountain top, âthe party is overâ for MK1 and Jrs. The MK1 had a long and wonderful rideâwhat, 7 or 8 yearsâwhich is pretty phenomenal for a DAC. The MKII uses an entirely new FPGA and thus the programming wonât be compatible with older models.
SWEET! Thank you
It was a good ride while it lasted. I got a Jr in April 2016, so I have been thru a number of upgrades. To my ears, each one sounded better than the last one. I am looking forward to next and last upgrade. If it sounds better than Windom, then it will be amazing. I could honestly live with Windom and be happy with it.
Thank you Paul and Ted for the good ride.
Same sentiment here for my DS Sr. Iâm also thrilled that Ted shared details of the Edcor XS4400 output transformer upgrade option, letting me take my existing DAC as far as itâll go with minimum cost and risk. One of my favourite products ever.
Iâm very interested in de output transformer upgrade. Is it perhaps a separate topic where I can find more information like Is the Edcor transformer pin-compatible ? Or maybe a transformer from Lundahl ?
Donât be lazy Maarten! Read from the start and you will find all the info.
Starting about here in the Modding the DirectStream DAC MKI thread people start talking about having done the XS4400 mod:
Thanx very much, Ted. I will read the thread.
I remember that you thought about Lundahl transformers in the beginning for the DSD, but the cost were to high. So this triggert me.
Indeed Paul, indeed! And if I may add - I feel the same way about the power plants circa P10 and later.
Will there be a generous trade-in program for those wanting to upgrade/
Thatâs the plan!
But will the trade-in program only be available in the USA or will the rest of the world be able to benefit? that is the question!!
