Next DSD firmware update in 2020 or 2021?

What were the Holy Molly improvements in? Let me guess, fullness and tube dimensionality?

I’m afraid the main point of the next update seems to be dsd 256, which I personally find disappointing and uninteresting, but there are always people who believe it’s heaven/nirvana.

I’m quite sure it will be lower noise with the great accompanying effects as always…and additionally something like higher sampling rate compatibility which is also great for those who make use of it.

I must admit having an update is a nice thing. BUT I must say all of the updates remind me of back in my High School days when my friends and I would go to the auto parts store. We would buy products that would increase horsepower and improve gas mileage. You know, add this fuel additive and get 10% better gas mileage. At the end of the day my 8 mpg ford still got 8 mpg. Heck I probably got worse mileage.

When the next update comes out I’m sue we will hear terms like:

  • The soundstage is now wider
  • I can now hear more into the music
  • My wife came into the room and asked what changed. The system sounds the best it ever has

We all know the terms that we will hear. Will there be an improvement, well time will tell. But get ready for the 5000 thread. It will be fun.

An excellent summary and I am certain an accurate prediction.

And, like extra horsepower, one gets accustomed to it quickly and then wants more - a never ending circle.

An ever evolving hype cycle?

Not hype. Each update has been an improvement.

I said hype cycle not hype. Take a look at the extensive literature on the Gartner hype cycle fore new technologies.
What PSA has done and what you allude to is anything but a never ending circle.

Ahh . . . Hype Cycle, not hype cycle.

Getting to the plateau of productively might take many a full year. There’s a lot to unpack with each of Ted’s updates.

I won’t ask when for another firmware, I will just sit back and let you all chirp. I hope this strategy works. Keep up the good work, I am on your collective sides.
Still listening and chilling.

Personally, I don’t really think about the when. More like the what, and the how.

I own a modest DSjr, Windom has taken it to a place I really, really like and enjoy and just wonder how our long bearded guru will manage to give it that something extra SQ wise -as he always does.

One would expect the ā€˜good ol’ Junior’ to have a ceiling but… I don’t know how he does it: when the new FW is out, I’m quite positive he will once again have worked his FPGA magic. No impatience here.

History has shown Ted and PS won’t release it unless it does provide tangible gains. They may or may not jive with your system but for many it will.

I might sell my BHK and DS and buy a Mola Mola.

Do I have to send back my PS Audio fan boy hat and decoder ring?

Yep, along with Elk and I banning you forever. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I want a hat! How did you get a hat?!

They only sent you one decoder ring?
