Next DSD firmware update in 2020 or 2021?

Ha no, I would stop doing that. It’s only going to encourage anxiety. Paul will definitely announce it here on the forums immediately and Scott is expected to send out an email once it’s released.

I was just kidding anyway…there were a couple times that I waited over 20 minutes between checks…

Ted, the new DSDMkII feature you cite in parenthesis (two AES3 inputs) stands out like a beacon as the best output of the state of the art Aurender Streaming Server W20SE ($22K) is it’s dual AES outputs, which, hopefully will be a new reference output of the upcoming future PS Audio Octave Streamer/Player to the MkII? One reviewer stating, “the Dual AES output IS the reason to buy the W20SE” his new reference player, replacing the W20.

Quote from Aurender: " Dual-Wire Mode AES/EBU

Dual-wire AES/EBU mode is sometimes used in reference digital-to-analog converters to double the level of resolution possible on an AES/EBU digital interconnect. When the AES/EBU output is used in dual-mode, the left and right channel information transmitted at 192kHz sample rate to make a 24-Bit, 384Hz stereo transmission. Since the maximum frequency is halved, transmission line requirement becomes less critical.

Dual Aes ebu is still a spdif format with combined clocks and data. I2S is a superior interface.

Hi Jamesh, perfect! “Immediately” is really good news

I can’t speak to the features of the PS Audio Octave product(s). I do know that something they are working on will source dual AES3
Since the DS (and DS Mk II) are not very sensitive to jitter it’s more the grounding issues that distinguish the inputs in people’s systems. AES inherently has galvanic isolation but I2S needs active circuitry and a separate power supply so even with galvanic isolation I2S inputs may not compete with dual AES from a great source (but with the DS’s I2S receiver turned off.) It will surely be system specific.

Thanks for the clarification, exciting non-the-less, 24bit 384 upsampled PCM impressed out of the Dual AES. Out of my price range, but here’s the review of the W20SE for anyone looking at sota streamers, Aurender W20SE Music Server - The Absolute Sound

DCS Network Bridge has dual AES output, not sure if they are proprietary to DCS dacs though…

Dear all, since I bought the PS audio DS senior, I have not only improved the SQ, but I am learning a lot about “liquid music” as they call it in Italy. Thanks to all of you from the forum and to the PS audio guys. Anyone who buys a PS audio product doesn’t just buy a product, but buys know-how, knowledge and friendship. All of this is unique. congratulations

Then maybe some Captain Beefheart’s Trout Mask Replica? Maybe the update will make that a little easier to listen to.

I just called PS Audio and was told the release is happening within 2 weeks. This does not sound like “immediately”.

If it’s not coming out today can we just be told so?

I was told Mid May when I called last week.and I posted the same right here.

@crabby I do believe that the word “immediately” in the post above is used to mean ‘immediately as it is released’ and not as in NOW.

I think now is a good time to play around with our other upgrades or if we have a turntable, to pull that out and listen to some nice records instead of pre-occupied with this Sunlight. I don’t think this bug is an easy fix and it’s going to take awhile.

Excellent work.

You should be done by sundown.

To @crabby, @sixpack1, @Palouse, @musiknarr , and others wondering about Sunlight firmware schedule release:

Paul did mention that a tentative release of the Sunlight firmware was scheduled for April 21st.

Then, this post happened:

For that reason, many of us are waiting for an imminent release …
