No, not really. You can invert a linear process, but you can’t in general a non-linear process. Transformers have some magnetic non-linearities near zero which can mess with quiet music or the inner detail of louder music. There’s no substitute for a quality transformer.
@tedsmith, ah, you mean non-linear at different levels/volumes, rather than frequency. Thanks
When the upgrade is available I am going to put it on my DSD Sr. and replace my Gryphon Kalliope DAC with the DSD. When I compared the May DAC to the Gryphon it was not difficult to pick a favorite. I actually think I may prefer the DSD to the May, I could be wrong. I didn’t compare the two I just moved on from the May.
All I know is it never left me wanting more when I was listening to the DSD with Windom. Never. The only reason I bought the Gryphon is it would match the Gryphon Preamp in appearance. Thank goodness it happens to sound wonderful too.
This is wonderful to hear.
The DS is often superior in prat…even to higher priced DAC’s
Sorry Ted, reading your post again, I guess you mean a bit like cross-over distortion of a class A/B push-pull amplifier?
First track to be played following a successful sunlight load shall be John Cage’s 4’ 33". Worth repeat playing.
We’re at 17 posts and the software hasn’t even been released yet - come on guys.[edited to say that I didn’t mean PS audio guys]
Looking forward to your comparison of those two dacs
Yes, I even thought of using the example of a class B amp.
With a big enough transformer you can even do the class A/B trick of a dc offset to keep the distortion away from the quiet signals (class A operation.) I did that with early DS releases, but the sound wasn’t as good as not doing it.
If you ever heard the Luxman D10X… you would rescind that statement.
Should I continue checking the “Downloads” page every 10 minutes today, or will we have to wait until next week for the Sunlight to shine…
I turned my Class A mono blocks on first thing Wednesday morning…didn’t yesterday or today…still hoping though
It´s almost done
A question for Ted, I don’t know if it has already been asked: will the new sunlight firmware also make some changes to the Bridge II?
Ted has said that all inputs would benefit from the changes in Sunlight. Ted does not write software for the Bridge Card PS Audio does that.
Free quoting Boris Johnson: Come on guys, let’s get Sunlight done
My big Krell is warming up right now…
