Which side of a regenerator, like a Power Plant P20, makes the biggest difference with regards to the power cable? For example, if I have only one really good, audiophile quality power cable, would it be best utilized by being in between the wall and the P20, or between the P20 and the amp?
Most say before over after. I think that’s my take as well.
Wall
You would think that put before the P20, it would affect everything plugged into the P20, and you would get an accumulative effect from it, but it actually affects the sound of the P20 less because the P20 is already cleaning and regenerating new power anyway. I find that it help the sound of my system more with the best power cord directly powering my amp. That’s just me.
You best cable should always go from the wall to the power plant.
If it is a high current and RF noise draining cord. Then wall and P20. If you stream digital next most important cord is a RF and EMI noise removing cord as far up the digital stream as possible meaning router or switch and every source point afterwards in next best cords. Next is DAC, next is preamp, next is amp.
Noise is best removed as far upstream as possible but must be able to drain back to common system ground through P20.
I thought the P20 didn’t affect ground.
If you can hear the difference between power cables, you can switch them around and find out
Common Ground. What a great name for a cable company!
It needs a good drain for noise out of the system. It is the conduit that all noise passes through it and away from your system to get the lowest noise floor. Everything else improves imaging, transients, soundstage with low noise floor.
I haven’t done so because of laziness and fear. Lately, every time I mess with things, they get worse. Leave well enough alone… but I’m still curious to know. Especially if they’re is science/ logic behind the answer.
I’m on the “to the regenerator from the wall” team. After that it’s a pick and choose game.
For me so far it’s been in this order:
- Wall to PP
- AMP
- DAC
- Pre
- Phono Pre
- AVR

I know it’s plural…
Funny, my amps (monoblocks) barely responded to power cables beyond my wondering if I was hearing what I was hoping to hear, until I spent (for me) preposterous money on Audience Front Row cables. That was substantial, God knows why, I don’t.
Another vote from the wall to the PP. All of the power goes through this cable so it makes sense from that perspective.
For me the 250 “woke up” when I replaced the initial cord that I had put on it. I started out with a Transparent reference and swapped in a cord of my own doing. I moved the Transparent down the list I posted above and when it got to the Phono Pre it had a really positive impact and is still there.
Yes. @Duncan_Taylor. That was audiophile humor. I’m familiar with and I look forward to getting his cables in my system soon! Duncan and Darren have a great podcast as well! Check it out if you haven’t heard it yet!
I assumed it was humor, but took advantage of a “teachable” moment to promote Duncan’s work! Yeah, LOVE their podcast
