Speaking of which, firmware version 3.0.3 does not seem at all stable. If I cycle power on the DAC using the switch on the back, it appears to be doing a complete reset back to factory defaults each time, accompanied by a series of relay clicks, etc. And some oddities: the DSD Rate in the menus defaults to “Linear” but the only choices to pick from are the previous (128, 256, 512). So is “linear” a new feature or just a weird bug? Anyone else seeing this? Also, is it possible to go reinstall the previous version or is that just asking for more trouble?
I’m seeing the same behaviour.
I have 3.0.3 for a while, and it is working fine so far.
3.03 working for me too. Maybe reflash it if you haven’t done that already?
I see some of this behavior. When new the 512 would not start up completely via the rear switch, only got the front logo illuminated but the screen was dark. It would take several restarts before it would fully come up. Also several relay clicks during the startup and sometimes when putting it into standby. The firmware updates did not effect this.
Also I did not lose settings after updates. I set fixed volume at 100 and ground lift on I2s 1, no others. I also do not use the streamer.
I get this too. Never before. Vol resets, but not sure about the other settings.
For me this has gotten better over time and does not seem related to firmware updates. Now a full restart happens on the second try (very rarely on the first) and no additional relay clicks going into standby, not a problem in day to day use.
But I do wonder to what degree streamer problems affect this. Again I don’t use the streamer so it likely doesn’t affect me but something to keep in mind for those that do.
Funny you should mention that. I did not notice until I turned the streamer back on to do an A/B compare for someone. I should turn it back off. BACCH4Mac does that for me now.
The DSD flips to Linear after a cold restart. Don’t know what it means.
Not a major problem as I keep the PMG 512 always on and running.
I now have firmware version 3.0.6 installed, and it seems to have fixed the issues with the menu-changeable data such as the DSD rate I mention above. For those who currently have a firmware level under 3.0.3 in their PMG Signature DAC and want to update, I’d suggest skipping 3.0.3 and going directly to 3.0.6.
