Prog Rock fans

I am a fan of Gavin Harrison. I recently got his album from 1997, “sanity & gravity”.
Great album! Features one of my favorites bass players
, Mick Karn, so it is extra special for me.

Is the event sold out? A link to it please @tomingram99 ?

Nice!!
(That is delivered with a fair amount of envy.)

After being absolutely disillusioned at the horrid music on the Grammys of late, I thought to my self, I wonder if there is a Prog Award show… I found one, and after seeing the massive production of the Grammys, this is almost comedy… but yes, there is (was) indeed a Prog Rock Awards show. The camera man MUST have been a volunteer… and the gal handing out the trophies looks like she can’t wait for it to be over… It is also hosted by a British Matthew Lillard…

I am not sure if the concert is sold out.

Thanks for the heads-up! Just purchased a ticket for the Boulder Theater show in May. It wasn’t horribly priced, so pulled the trigger.

An excellent prog rock primer/overview that I discovered by accident this morning. I learned quite a bit reading this lengthy piece and had a few laughs along the way.

This is a recommendation after a most enjoyable dinner last night. The food was terrible but the company excellent. The chap next to my wife was most interesting. We’ve met before at some friends’ houses, he’s a TV and music producer and has a couple of special interest TV channels. He’s done well, but clearly knows how to have fun, including playing double bass in a Cornish (as in Cornwall) folk band, which apparently requires little talent and a lot of improvisation.

One job he took on was Manager of The Enid Fan Club. How cool is that? Robert John Godfrey is still chasing the dream. Years ago I had a lot of their albums. I think I’m going to have to renew my interest.

Yes, it’s probably my favorite genre, and I’ve always listened to the big-names, so I’ll just name those that aren’t Pink Floyd, Genesis, etc.,

-Curved Air
-Illusion
-Carol of Harvest
-Earth & Fire
-Savage Rose
-Empire
-Fairport Convention
-Sandrose
-Stairway
-Renaissance
-Fantasy (US band from Florida)
-Spirogyra
-Mother Superior
-Lily & Maria
-Comus
-Fotheringay
-The Strawbs
-Trees
-Pentangle
-Steeleye Span
-Bran

(Let’s see if anyone can determine what kind of 70s prog I like

The Enid played at Stonehenge free festival in 1984, and supplied the PA and main stage for the rest of the week as I recall (the week around solstice, there were folks there for pretty much all of June). Their set was quite stunning, but plagued with tech issues and stoners shouting “Hawkwind” throughout.
The following year the festival didn’t run (see “Battle of the Beanfield”).

The Moving Pictures 40th is quite good (which Rush fans probably know unless they live under a rock). The 1981 Toronto live set it includes is especially celebrated. The Super Deluxe Edition includes a 5.1 and Atmos disc (like the other SDEs before it), which I’d really like to hear, but not making space for it in the library at this time. I’ve heard the CDs might have a different DR than the HD versions. Prost!

Got my Moving Pictures 40th anniversary box set a couple days ago. I can’t wait to open and have a listen!!!

Great Strombo - more like a good BS session than an interview.

Spending the night seeing The Stick Men. Pretty neat. Mixing in Crimson and Fripp stuff left and right. Being 20 feet from Tony Levin is a life experience!

Levin is wearing a sweatshirt from the Peter Gabriel So tour. Where I saw him in 1987 as I recall. Ha!

Nice! That’s awesome. I could watch the Chapman stick being played all night. Not to mention watching people trying to foot tap or head bob to 9/8 & 13/8 time…
But I gotta say - those chairs with beverage holders are concert Brilliance!!!
I saw Fripp many years ago (97 G3 tour Vancouver - I REALLY wanted to see Eric Johnson but Kenny Wayne Shepherd replaced Eric on the Canadian leg of the tour - although he was damn good.)

I was fortunate to see Tony Levin play with King Crimson on their summer US tour in 1996. Incredible! Been a Fripp/Bruford fan forever.
