I may resemble that. Lol nothing wrong in my book with putting a 12 dollar bed-frame support with sorbothane under 5600 hundred power cord. It’s not same as a cheap skull shift knob on the Ferrari shifter but some would feel that way.
The bed-frame support has made the $5k cord sound much better than a $5k cord so the tweak is well worth it. LOL!
I think comparisons between the FR30 and AirLens are a little skewed. The FR30 has evolved considerably from what Paul and Arnie had been working on. The FR30 does have eleven (I think) custom drivers per box while the AirLens is more off the shelf components. The AirLens has been a promised device for a long time to replace the Bridge. If anything, I think the AirLens has gotten a little simpler that what was first suggested. I should add the Server Paul was working on was a different effort so no comparisons to that.
As for one percenter’s, I have a hard time thinking of myself as one given the wealth of some in the US and Europe, but I have also seen the poverty in less developed countries. So yeah, maybe I am. Not proud of it but I do try to share the wealth.
Come on airlens…
That would be nice! It’s my last upgrade until the TSS. I’m not sure if I will hear any benefits. The Bridge II in my DS Sr has a lot of 3M EMI absorbing paper around it.

While patiently waiting for an AirLens I ponder this question:
With everything being somewhat equal what sounds better a SACD Disc or a DSD download to a hard drive?
Thank You,
Steve
It depends. If you mean a DSD64 download which is equal to what is on an SACD then any difference in sound is due to the SACD transport and interconnect cables. If the DSD download is DSD128 or higher than the download would sound better if all other things are equal.
The thing about streaming is the convivence of it as well. Work Roon into the equation and boy you have yourself a plethora of things to listen to. If you are spinning a disk, even it its a bit better, that’s all you get is that disk. I rarely listen to a full album. Some yeah I skip here and there, but many of the times my ADD kicks in and I scroll down to the if you like this then try this section. So much fun.
I almost always listen to a complete album.
Thank you, that’s great to hear, because we are the same way we almost never listen to full albums. We have qobuz and roon and everyday is an adventure in old and new music.
Thought I was missing something,
Steve
I should not say never, something new, yeah i try each track, but many a times its a ugh, next… I know what I like and what I dont like…very few albums get my attention for a full listen. just my personality I guess. But I just wanted to say I do give it a try on a new one. If I go 4 songs or so and dont like any, i will say I give up fast. No patience.
I’ve been looking forward to the release of the airlens since I first heard about it. Today my squeezebox touch finally bit the dust. So I just ordered the ifi zen stream from crutchfield as an economical solution. They offer 60 days to love it or return it. Any bets on whether the air lens will be available within the next 60 day window?
I’d say this is one for @Paul to step into the betting game.
https://www.psaudio.com/products/airlens/ Did anyone notice this popped up on the PS Audio product site ? If I recall the MK2 showed up like this and the Beta started about a week later
Well HELL!!!
Let’s go!
Have not been following the discussions, is there a retail price for this yet?
At one point Paul estimated around $2K. But that was a while ago and it wasn’t a commitment.
I love the design. Now the 2 I2S inputs on the DSD make really sense. PWST hooked up to one and he AirLens to the other.
For integration in other brand high end systems the air lens misses AES EBU, which it shouldn’t, considering the price. On the other hand if SPDIF Coax is well designed and you keep the distance to the DAC short with a high quality cable it might not matter. I am just a fan of balanced connections.
I wonder, Paul mentioned Apple AirPlay a while ago, but I can’t see Apple AirPlay in the specs.
- Not ready yet?
or - Forgotten to mention?
or - Will never be offered due to license fee or technical issues?
Can’t wait to hear from beta testers, as soon as the program starts, how the AirLens work in case you already have a good server/streamer and a good switch in the equation.
Reading the web page it seems quite obvious the role of the AirLens when you have in your system a computer.
To be clear, if you already have like many members here a fiber connection or ethernet/fiber/ethernet conversion units? And more specifically if you already have, like in my case, both a server streamer (Innuos Statement with highly performing USB output reclocked or even a USB reclocker like the PhoenixUSB) and a highly performing switch/reclocker like the PhoenixNET? How big might be the difference in SQ that the AirLens can provide in those cases?
I’m hoping a beta tester with that units (or similar) will soon answer these questions!
