PS Audio AirLens

Thanks Luca for the well wishes and appreciation of the simple inexpensive tweaks I have shared. I have 24 hours before I am a temporarily incapacitated.

Occasionally I try taking some of my tweaks away too. I found if you have a listening position other than your sweet spot optimized for bass the vibration isolation of power cords takes away from those seats in a bass null in the room. So you need excessive bass to bounce around (i.e. Bose signature sound) and bring up the level in that null. If you have optimized speaker position and listening position with the Paul’s Art of The Stereo Book or DSP based on listening position . Then tweak out with other vibration isolation for you sweet spot, those bass nulls can sneak up on you elsewhere in the room.

I freaked out one evening having guests over letting them sit in my optimized position and me being seated in a bass null. Everyone was smiling and blown away by the music, but me sitting in the bass null. After everyone left I pulled my power cord isolators. It fixed the bass null listening to crappy compressed source music some had requested earlier. But I had to go back to my isolation tweaks trying to listen where I normally do because everything became smeared and details hidden. Luckily I do have a solution now when others come over. When they select poor compressed sources with no highs or lows, I turn my RoomPerfect DSP to Global mode or off which I now refer to as Bose Mode.

I have nothing against mode and do own some 901s which one too have to tweak to be appreciated for anything other than filler sound.

Good luck, @Vmax!

Audiophile is not a democratic hobby! Just one sweet spot, 90% it’s mine, 10% it’s for my son (I know I’m a terrible father).
If I have guests sometimes I generously give them the opportunity to seat on the (throne) sweet spot one at a time, max for 1 song, then I offer them a good glass of wine and delicious food. No more.
That’s my rules in my cavern! Period!

Please back soon in plein form, we all need you at 100%, good luck again.

Just found a pile of the wife’s surplus Italian consumer goods in a bathroom. That’s a good enough excuse to buy a few more records. Now I don’t feel so bad.

Tod’s and Hogan… mmm are during last 20 years my favorite shoes! For men, of course. Congrats to your wife!

Back to music and gears.

Just arrived my SR Switch UEF, first impression is remarkable @waymanchen11 your are right!

I only stream from Roon/Qobuz and it makes difference, really.

Power cable SR Fundamental, Ethernet cable SR Fundamental included in bundle, not top of the line (sorry Al, upgrade maybe needed in future).

My ears say it is a keeper especially thinking to use it with the AirLens as soon as it will be here.

  1. Quiter. Unequivocally better control and silent background, gives to sound a pleasant feeling, more natural, less flat than before.
  2. Image. More realistic, especially for the first time I hear separation of instrument never heard before playing Roon. Dynamic, engaging.
  3. Soundstage. Guitar on the right side, voices well centered and wider extensions of instruments (not so much in depth).

Streaming 44/16 improvements are audible, 96/24 and 192/24 (Money for Nothing from Qobuz) are even more evident.

Next step will be comparions vs CDs, at first sight the gap is still present but not so big. Am I liking digital finally?

Glad it worked for you! I was stunned by the difference when I first put it in. When my brother heard it in my system, he was more stunned than I was. He has better ears. There’s a purple fuse already installed and it sounded perfect with it. Lots of power and energetic sound with this fuse, I don’t think you need a M-1 on this one.

I’m afraid it has an Orange on board, bought it from Contrado in the Netherland

Just wondering if upgrading ethernet cables may give even higher results (AQ Diamond or SR upper lines).

When I bought mine, it was listed with an Orange fuse, but they put in a Purple one on the latest units they shipped out. You can pull out the fuse and see which they sent with your unit if you decide on another fuse.

The WW Platinum Starlight 8 Ethernet cable was a nice enhancement to the SR switch, but I heard the less expensive Inakustik Reference Cat7 from Ebay is not bad either.

Gasp!

I would send it back in protest (or demand a Purple Fuse in place of the Orange, post haste).

I wonder if you should just upgrade Orange to M-1. Purple for sure is better than Orange.

You guys are all instigators! SR started sending all their units some time ago with Purple fuses, so in all probability, it already Purple. It’s a big circuit because it’s something like a 16 amp fuse so it might be an important fuse. But the Purple it comes with really sounds good, I don’t think it needs to be replaced, but I’m also in the wrong forum to be saying this.

After 3 hours of streaming (never happened in my life) I must admit that switches matter almost this SR switch matters. No doubt.

And falling in this new rabbit hole I’m afraid I’ll be tempted by some upgrade, for sure tomorrow (too late now here I need some hour of sleep) I’ll check the fuse inside the switch.

  1. I have a spare HC Dragon power cord to try but I don’t know if it is a good idea: which kind of power supply is inside the switch? Is it able to mate a variable current cable like the HC Dragon power cord made for amps, regenerators and linear power supply?
  2. Ethernet cables. Here a new world can start (again).
  3. Fuses.

I also have a spare piece of an absorber sheet, curious to tweak also with this switch if our Master Vmax permits me.

Last but not least. Listening digital music in streaming mood is totally different! I wasn’t able to listen to an entire album from the first track to the last one during all these evening hours. Not so good. I really do not like this sort of zapping syndrome, it seems I can have less concentration on music, feeling anxiety to go to the next song.

I would definitely think th Inakustik Referenz 7 will make @luca.pelliccioli very happy. Goes well with th Dragon digital chain.

Play lists are your friend. But Roon Radio is the bomb for just letting music genre leads you. It pulls in artist and songs in your library and takes you elsewhere as well i listen to at least one album side per night. Don’t miss flipping and cleaning vinyl or chasing shiny discs.

I will see if I can figure out where absorber might work on that box. I will have plenty of time to tweak mentally for a few days. I might even get to The shorting plugs for USB and HDMI Ted told me how to build for the DS mK1 tweak out. if the pain meds let me.

Any recommendations as to a reputable online dealer of said cable…?

TIA.

I ordered a Inakustik Ref. 7 a few days ago, and it will ship to here from Germany. it is a lot closer to Italy for sure. I heard so many complimentary reviews on it that I must try it.

I found this dealer in Germany don-audio.com, and the price is more reasonable than others. Thanks to strong Dollars.

Thanks. Ships to US, I assume (?).

This is an interesting observation because I have the same pattern. When I listen to a CD, I can usually finish the whole album, but doing streaming I seldom finish the whole album.
